Thumbs up Manual Mode Education 101

Ok guys, I'd like to be educated on the Manual mode of the 5spd Auto. I've read that in the car manual that the car will automatically shift down to 1st at a stop. I've also heard from someone else that you cannot downshift to 2nd. What if you were in drive and you doing 55, and you wanted to go into manual mode, is that ok ? Please educate me to every detail you know about the manual mode of the auto.

In Manual mode, the Auto will shift for you if it feels that you aren't. So if the RPMs get too low, it will downshift, and if they get too high, it will upshift.

Can can downshift into 2nd. I don't think the car will automatically downshift into 2nd though, it skips it.

And you can freely switch between D and M anytime you like, just be prepared for the sudden downshift from 5th to 4th when going from D to M.

Basically if you ask me, the M mode is worthless. If you want manual, by a 6 speed. just my .02. no flaming intended.

umm MM will not upshift when rpm gets to high, it will just bounce off until you "manually" upshift. don't confuse with BMW's manual mode...

No, it will not shift to 1st at a stop. Mine shifts to 2 or 3. And as for shifting to 2, who the h*ll told you, you couldn't? That's b.s. I do it all the time. I never drive in D, and if I'm doing 90 on the freeway, and come to an exit at 55, I go into 3rd as I come into the turn, and 2nd into the tightest part of the turn till I stop. You don'd need to ever drive it in manual. I don't feel the same pull of the car in D. It works better and is a better run using the triptonic. It eats up the road using the triptonic. Rev it high, but don't red line it, from 2nd to 3rd, you'll feel the pull and shift. It's f'n awesome.....The downshifting rev noise is awesome.....varrrrrrooooooom!

I realize that you were not trying to flame, but this is not the response I am looking for on this thread. This thread is to educate on the Manual Mode of the Automatic transmission. The 6spd Manual need not even be mentioned.

The car downshifts for you when you stop. That's about it. It won't upshift for you. You are on your own. My tranny automatically downshifts all the way to 1 when I make a complete stop, or close to one.

Hum.....well, last stop I came to off of the freeway at pretty high speeds, I came in at 2 if I'm not mistaken. But sometimes I don't pay much attention, I just drive my a** off.

Up shifting? Well, in D mode it does it all for you, but when using the Triptonic, you have to do it yourself. But you get a better ride. You can feel the torque pull. I love it. Won't even drive it in D, unless absolutely too tired to shift. Had to drive it in D for my divers license test though. Pin head at DMV wouldn't let me drive it with the shift on. Use the Triptonic, you'll love your car even more. You can hear when you need to change gears, if that's what you're worried about. But years of my dad racing cars, taught me to listen for that too. You'll hear it, and know when to change. You'll never drive it in D ever again.....

You were probably still rolling a little, never truly stopping.

Ya, you're right, tiny bit rolling, but when I do finally stop it is in 1.

I agree about driving it in manual mode all of the time. The only down side is that it gets me about 14 miles per gallon. I guess I fell in love with the exhaust note in low gears.

Don't blame manual mode for you gas mileage. That's your own damn fault and you know it. Haha.
