Default Audiophile's Oppinion on Bose

The tite sounds so conceited, but i have listented to many a system over the years, and was going to get a job this past summer at Hi-Fi House (a home theater/music system store). Well here goes.

The sound has gotten better with age as the speakers are beginning to break in. Break-In is very noticable on this sytem, especially in the trebble reigons.

BESIDES the auto volume feature, the system isn't as horrible as many have claimed it to be (remember, this is with the car parked). Its listenable, which to me, in a car, is all that maters, (the engine soudns good enough).

Its faults. Well bass extention isnt very good considering the 10" sub, probably only down to about 45hz. The bass is also one-notey, and a little boxy sounding, meaning the some of the uper-bass reigions are too pronounced.

The midrange aint half bad. It's a little rough, and at higher volumes honky, but keep the volume under 18 and it sounds decent.

The trebble is a little bright in the lower trebble reigons, and its extention, which gives the music its "air" isnt very good. But it isn't overly offensive, making the system listenable, which is all I wanted.

I found the best settings to be: (Bass -3) (Trebble 0) (Fader F1) (Balance R1). When I set the bass louder, it sounded too tubby. Trebble is less harsh with it set to -1 or 2, but you loose alot of the top octave making it sound dull.

Sory if this is of no value, just one persons oppinion.

You would have to be either completely deaf, or not have the same amp problems as I and many others do to not hear the defects. The Bose in my car does not work properly EVER! My favorite thing to do when showing off this spectacular system is to turn the car completely off and set the volume to "7", select disc number 6 (Slipknot) and watch my passenger's face as they hear the bass build in the mix louder and LOUDER. I especially enjoy saying, "Look, I'm not touching anything!" with my hands in the air as the volume magically rises. Turn it down to "4" and within seconds the volume is back to the original level I was trying to set at "7". It IS ABSOLUTELY as bad as everyone says. Like I said, either your's works or you just can't hear.

BTW, since I don't spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on home/car audio equipment, I guess I can't call myself an audiophile. I am however a musician (guitarist) who plays by ear. I can reconstruct chords and pick out individual notes from any given song and play them, so my hearing HAS to be good.

Driod, I mean with the engine off, once your turn the engine on, all goes to hell. I completaly agree, and hope to get the new amp asap, as this is suposed to completely remedy this. BUT, without the auto volume crap working, the sound systerm isn't terrible. While it aint that good, its listenable, which is all that maters to me in a car system.

I listen to plenty of systems too but for the day that I have had my Z with the stereo playing, I can't get the damn thing to stay at one setting. Either the road, the exhaust or the music that I am trying to listen to is making the volume or the bass jump around.

This thing sucks!

I also have set the bass at -3, but the other settings are set flat at the moment, because I can't get enough of the exhaust sound, its mesmerizing. So, I'm not listening to the radio, cd or cassette much at all. The minus 3 on the bass cleaned up the sound immediately when I was experimenting, though.

I put the fader to F1 because the sound was too "phasey" because the the interplay between the front/rear 6.5 speakers. I put the balance to R1 to bring the middle of the soundstage right in front of my face.

No, read my response AGAIN. I said with the car completely turned off. I showed this to sKiDaZZLe on Friday night and as much as he wanted to laugh, he said that after hearing this wretched excuse for a system he actually felt bad for the Touring owners.

Yeah, I can't even listen to Slayer when cleaning the Z because it sounds so bad. I detail in COMPLETE SILENCE!
