I received this response from nna consumeraffairs when I asked about the tire feathering on 2004, 2004.5 and the 2005 when it's released:

Nissan continually collects and evaluates information concerning any problems our vehicles may experience. In the event that Nissan confirms that a safety or emissions problem exists, it is Nissan's policy to voluntarily undertake a recall.
The majority of recalls conducted by Nissan have been the result of problems identified by Nissan rather than government agencies. In the few cases, where the government initially identifies a problem, Nissan is fully cooperative and voluntarily conducts a recall where the problem is confirmed.

In regards to the 2003 350Z the issue is being addressed accordingly on the 2004 we have not experienced the same issues.

We hope this has answered your question.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me, nnaconsumeraffairs@nissan-usa.com

So it looks like no tire feathering on 2004 350Z's, anyone beg to differ?

Too early to tell on mine, I have a little over 4500 miles on my 2004, build date 10/03 that I bought in December.

Had the dealer check out my front tires, so far the fronts have been wearing evenly and no "tire growl".

I believe several people have already reported feathering on their 04s. I haven't but only 1600 miles on my Z so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

All that says is that Nissan knows about the problem, supposedly fixed it for 04 and that's it - 03 owners (like me) are **** OUTTA LUCK!!!

Although I must say my car only now has the issue, 19500 miles. Still sucks though. I'm not looking forward to changing tires every ~20k miles. I'm gonna try an alignment and hope for the best.

Your not out of luck, They just released a TSB, they are willing to warranty the tires based on miles. for mile don't pass 20k tho, you'll lose some % of the re-emberment of tires.

ZPower,

Don't quote me on this, but I read somewhere that the stock bridgestone tires are good only for 15000 miles.

Consider youself lucky that you made it to 20000 miles without hearing the "tire growl"!!! If everybody here had feathering at 20k you would be hearing no complaints. 20k is acceptable for a sports car, 3k on the other hand is not.

If you want your tires to last longer than 20k I suggest you try the Michelin Pilot Sports, they supposedly have double the tread wear rating of the stock tires. These are the tires used on the G35 coupe.

you can put michelon on but they will STILL WEAR UNEVENLY thats the REAL ISSUE.

according to the nissan TSB just released i can get a new alighnment and get a new set of tires

" my second"

but once i reach

THE 2 YEAR OWNERSHIP MARK IM FCUKED UNLESS THEY FIX THE PROBLEM.

i also can get money for any tire i had to buy previoslly so since i got one tire free from my dealer i can get rembursed for the other

the NISAN DIDLO IS STILL HAVE WAY UP MY ****

they pulled it out a little but untill they permantly fix this problem it will always be there

I didn't have an issue with this before, as my dealer was perfectly content with replacing the tires (and F*CKING my rims in the process, but that's a different story).

Now that Nissan has come up with this, I feel like I'm being short changed. Sure the warranty covers it for a little longer, but the problem is still goign to be happening after the warranty expires, I don't care if they extend the tire warranty to 100K miles, my car will still feather at 101K unless I replace the suspension. They really need to just fix it for gods sake.
