What the hell? Dealer wants $29k for a base?
Here's the deal. Since it was such a nice day in Raleigh today, I went to a couple of dealerships to look at the Z and the RX-8. I LOVE the Z. The salesman let me start it up and the engine just roared to life, real nice. Anyways, The base model had a MSRP of $27k but the dealer's price was $29800 or so. Is this price ridiculous or is it normal? He stressed that they would probably only come down to around $29k. Is this dude smokin' crack??? I was under the impression that you could get a base for around $25k-$26k? I would hate to see the price for a track! Anybody care to comment? Thanks guys

Don't worry about what the sticker price says. Start from the invoice and work up from there...not down from msrp. I got my track for $700 over invoice so you should be able to beat that on a Base.
Ok i'm bored at work:
Base Invoice: $25,223 including dest
Floor Mats: $59
Splash Guards: $108
Cargo pkg: $51
Alum kick plates: $69
Trunk Mat: $54

Don't haggle with the guy, take your business somewhere else. Over MSRP for a Base model is not a deal whatsoever (especially since the Z has been released for quite awhile)... if there aren't any dealers nearby to shop, check with your local auto brokers.
A friend of mine does the following, and I'm going to try this with my next car. It's pretty much stress-free when you think about it.
1. Figure out the invoice.
2. Figure out how much over that you are willing to pay.
3. Write that figure down on a piece of paper along with your phone number.
4. Give the paper to the salesman and tell him to give you a call when he is ready to sell you the car for that price.
5. Go home and wait for the phone to ring. If it doesn't, don't stress it; just go to another dealer.
Good luck to you.
