Out of curiosity, I headed down to the local Nissan dealership today, and started iquiring about the Z, and the dealer said that if I ordered now, he could have it for me by mid-December. That sounds a bit too quick...is he yanking my chain?

Maybe, maybe not. I know Shagz here on the boards stated he ordered a Z here in Jacksonville in early Sept. I believe, and his delivery time is dec-Jan.
Delivery times are not guaranteed anyway, just an estimate, so your dealer won't be held accountable if its late.

Its probably true. What pissed me off is that I preordered in January and my car is scheduled to arrive Oct. 22. When I talked to my dealer I told I wished I would have ordered a different color. He said no problem he would have one the color I wanted a week later. I said what if that preorder changes his mind about his car. He said oh no that car is not a preorder its regular dealer inventory. I was pissed because he is going to start receiving regular inventory a week after my preorder.

If you want, ask them to put a delivery date in writing on the order. You can always write something like that in as a subject if you really wanted to for peace of mind.

Hey stx --
I'm sure that if you checked into it, the Dealer ordered several Z's in the names of some of his employees. That's what mine did, and NNA says it is legal.
One dealer in this area has over 12 Z's ready for immediate sale, but for $1500 over MSRP.

NNA says delivery timeframe is 3-4 months (which, in Nissan-speak, means 4 months). So mid December is not really realistic. Alot of dealers are telling people Nov.-Dec. so they get your deposit money and order the car. At that point, they have you, and there is nothing you can do but wait. That is why it is all the more important to check out the dealer you are preparing to do business with.

That is reasonable, but delivery time frames will be determined by how many orders the dealer has taken. Make sure you are talking with someone who is in touch with the ordering process at the dealership you are dealing with. I actually have two caars coming in Nov/Dec that are available, but if you wanted a different car than I had coming you would be looking at a Jan/Feb delivery date.

the only way to get one sooner is if you were to buy one from a dealer that has one in stock. The way this happens is either 1) they faked buyers orders to get the cars 2) someone backed out of their order. Either way, you will very likely pay a premium for the car. The timeframe does not differ from dealer to dealer. It is based on national Z sales, not that dealer's. If a dealer pre-sold 20 Z's in September, they will get 20 in the Feb. - Mar. timeframe. That is why if you ask NNA they will tell you 3-4 months. If it varied by dealer it would cause alot of problems for Nissan.

I'm in the same boat as you NSANY. I ordered back in Januay too. I think the performance models got delayed.
