I am a car dealer in pittsburgh. I have a 03 Lemans Sunset Z, and I love it. I have allways wanted a 91-95 300zx turbo. I have a 93 blk/blk turbo one-owner 300zx coming in on trade. It only has 42k original miles on it. I have never driven one of these, but im thinking of possibly buying it for myself. So my question is what do you think of these cars? Are they as reliable, and driveable as my 350?

More reliable, just as driveable. They are simply superb cars...and I think many 350z owners would prefer a brand new 300zx to a brand new 350z...just b/c of exclusivity and styling that will never go old. That said, a 93 is damn old...be prepared to deal with a bunch of maintenance replacements and such. Also, the paint will probably be shitty.

I still love my 350z...but today the 300ZX (TT) would be a 50k+ car.

They are horrible. They are so bad, in fact, that you shouldn't even let it sit on your lot. If you want, I can drive out there and remove it for you.

Haha. I've never actually driven one, but everyone I know who has loved it. Definitely go for it.

Compared to the rest of the 300ZXs, a 93 is a mere baby.

I owned a 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo with JWT intake, JWT ECU, boost controller set to 17psi on pump gas, 19psi on race gas, downpipes, 3 inch dual straight pipes to HKS mufflers. That car was more reliable (my 350Z had an oil leak and the engine was replaced), very drivable, and much much faster. I also feel that the Z32 was built with better quality materials than the 350Z. I took apart the interiors of both cars to install stereo systems and the 300ZX just seemed like it was made better than the 350Z.

Man, was the 300ZXTT fast. It used to run about 109 mph in the 1/4 mile. The brakes were terrible though. At the track, the brakes would fade pretty quickly. My 350Z with an intake, plenum, pulleys, and high flow cats feels like an absolute snail compared to the might Twin Turbo. On the other hand, at the track, the handling and braking are phenomenal. If the 350Z had another 100hp it would be just right....

I had a '91 300ZX TT, kept it for a while after buying the 350 last October just because I'd had it for 13 years, only 67K miles and no problems, very reliable, very fast. Interior quality was superior to current model and very comfortable on longish trips. Had to replace the leather on the drivers seat, and the fins on the turbos had a little carbon build up, but that was it. Great car!
When I decided to modify the 350, had to let her go. Put it in front of local gas station, sold to a kid 3 blocks from me in 3 hours.
Happy to say he is taking good care of it.

Should I buy this car for 8k? Is It real tuff on the engine to put mods on it? If not what should I do to it?

Or, I can just buy a supercharger for my 350z....to many things to think about

I drove a 91 300ZX TT owned by a relative, and I agree with the things others have said in this thread. What a nice car. The most immediately noticable deficiency was the brakes. If you could do some sort of brake upgrade, the car would be really sweet.

Buy the Z32, keep the Z33 stock and a daily driver. Mod the crap out of the Z32 and have a blast. No question the immeadiate mod potential of the Z32 is greater. Exhaust, Controller and ECU and you have an extra 100hp.

I had a '94 for years and loved it. Brakes upgrade is a must. At a minimum get rotors and good pads, but a big brake kit makes the car near perfect.

Add strut bars front and back and it handles nearly as good as the Z33, sways and your probably a little ahead.

I looked for about a year for replacement for my Z32 before the Z33 came out, and couldn't find a nice lower milage car. They are a real find now.

If nothing else, buy it, and then sell it on twinturbo.net so a real enthusiast gets it.

With you being a car dealer, you likely already know the '93 300ZX TT will make you money. Buy it for yourself, if you decide not to keep it, turn around and sell it without losing money.

I was original owner of my blk/blk '93 TT, I let her go last May and regret it ever since. The car had no major problem, just the usual clutch replacement, replaced battery once, and replaced a fuel injector. My 300ZX is the most reliable car ever owned.

I sold the car because I got bored with the body style(it's probably because I had it for 10 years), although still get compliment on the look everywhere I go. Selling the 300ZX TT is a mistake that I'll remember for a long time.

Alang, I like your idea. I want to keep my 350Z as a everyday driver, and make the 300zxtt a weekend racer. I will be into this Z for under $9 which seems like a steal to me. I was wondering what is the 1/4 mile stock on these cars? 0-60? If I put in the intakes, ecu, downpipe, to give me that extra 100hp what would the 1/4 miles be?

I had a 93 TT and I loved it. My take on it:

Z32 when modded can be ridiculously fast. Due to the age though you are going to have to do a significant amount of maintenance no matter the mileage: 60k, buhsings are probably shot, rubber items start wearing, etc etc. I think the Z33 has far superior balance, handling, and braking. Z32 is basically a GT car, it's tremendous on the highway but a pig at AutoX. They're both great cars.

I remember before I got my 350Z I was searching high and low for a 300ZX TT. About a month into it I gave up, I couldn't find anyone selling one ANYWHERE! Well, I guess that's the price you pay of living in a small town such as mine and being somewhat far away from the more populated areas.

I don't really remember the 1/4 mile stuff, it was never my thing, but go to www.twinturbo.net and you will find more info than you ever wanted to know. Dynos for almost any mod, Tech for most popular mods, and lots and lots of forum info. I have been going to that site since around '96, so you have years of info to search through.

the 300zx tt is gorgeous as its self. but it is high maintinence. one part that needs fixing will pretty much take forever because the parts are so hard to find. i am a 87 300zx owner myself. and parts are hard to find as is. the eariler models, may be some what easier. but i highly doubt it. but yet again. 300zx's are very rare now these days. and if you can get a hold of one espically TT. u just want to make sure you dont run it hard. also many ppl will buy TT 300zx's and convert it to only single turbo, alot of supra owners will do the same for better engine reliability reasons. they dont drive as easily as 350z's might. but to mee i feel like it has better handling. correct me if im wrong.

I always wanted a '90-96 300ZX Turbo. I would buy it at that price if I were you! When I was looking for one, good ones were going for $25k and I couldn't see spending that on an older car. Once I had a chance at getting one for $12k but didn't have the money at the time. I always regretted that. I eventually got the 2003 350Z (pre-order) and I am very happy with it, but I still wish I had gotten that 300ZX when I had the chance.

That is a very good price you would get into with that TT.

I have done almost everything on my 350Z and with just a couple of mods on my 300ZX TT it already has more power than the 350Z, see signature for HP numbers and mods.
