Friend just traded in his RX8: Fuel cost too high
If this current trend continues, and personally I doubt the prices will ever come back to "normal" as we knew them..how long before the bite gets too much..for us enthusiasts..for the public in general (truck/suv owners esp)
Will you trade in your Z for something gas economical?
Im not complaining, it cost me $35 for a full tank yesterday and I know if I drive "spirited" that wont last 3 days but still, no intention of parting with my ride. My pal tho with the RX8 could'nt handle it and got a Mazda 3 instead, I also notice alot of cars in the garage after work..people not driving if they can find alternates now, things will prob get worse thru the summer and beyond?

pay to play. kinda hope no one stretched themselves that thin that fuel costs are breaking the budget.
but then again, seems Im in the minority... I use the Z as a daily driver and see 2weeks on average to a tank of gas. 3 days... naw, Id have to average 15mpg for 75miles a day. that just doesnt seem possible. I get 20mpg and only do about 10miles per day.

Gas prices high? Higher than they were, yes but not high as other places. I live in Spain and the price just went over what would be $5.00/ gal/. One solution for those who do a long commute would be to move closer to work. For some that would mean moving into a city from the 'burbs. That might be a good thing for you and the city. Mayber hgher gas prices will be what brings US together.

It is on average 10-15 cents more than when it was at steady price. 10 cents on 20 gal is $2. I usually fill up on sunday night and a top off on thursday night for the weekend. My drive to work is only 12 miles. Yes I love driving around, just give me a reason. 32,000 miles in 21 months.
Hmmm, lets say I average 20 mpg x $1.88 average price for premium. Thats around $3000 for fuel since I have owner her. Worth every penny.

Heh heh, yeah, I was going to mention that. Americans seem to get quite upset when gas here gets above $2/gallon, even though that's still half of what it is just about anywhere else in the world. From what I've read in a couple of reports, gas here is supposed to hit $3 by the summer. It'll be interesting to see how people react. Maybe people will stop buying huge SUVs when smaller vehicles would do just fine for their needs.
Thankfully I only live about 5 miles from work, so I've started riding my bike. I'm saving money on gas, saving miles on my car, and getting some much needed exercise all at the same time. Fantastic.

I'M GETTING 19 MPG - WHICH IS 80% QUITE SHORT DRVING ( 7.5 MILES TO WORK ) - AND I STILL LOVE TO ZIP IT SOME ! CAR ONLY HAS 2300 MILES - AND SHOULD GET BETTER MPG AS IT AGES A BIT. GAS HERE IS NOW $2.36 (AT LEAST IT WAS YESTERDAY - MAY BE MORE TODAY).

When I was spending $240 per month for gas to commute in the Z, I just picked up the Civic as a second car. 27 MPG on 87 octane and I drive the **** out of it. Now that the Z is gone, the STi is even worse at ~15 MPG.

I think what will be interesting is if the increase in gas price will decrease the demand for the Z. If sales on the Z begin to slow those who are buying may get a better deal if there's a lot of dealer overstock.

comparing gas prices in other countries is like comparing apples and oranges because people in other countries don't depend on cars like US. We rely on cars to go to work, shopping, church, etc etc. We move around and it's a big country so this is the best system for us, other countries can put their efforts to improve public transportation while we put ours in manufacture and delivery of cheap gas.
Besides, the average Japanese or European doesn't spend $50-$100 on gas a week.
