Wow raced a 300ZXTT In Beverly Hills Last night...

What a rush, it was just like my old TT, 93 300ZX TT, except this one was Silver to match my new 350Z. Anyway dude rolls right next to me drooling and was like lets see what that thing has. I asked him if his car was stock and he swore it was. So I launch at 2300RPM and just wheel spin to around 6KRPM (with some forward movement/acceleration), shift into second and I'm off, he has a late launch but by third I am def. pulling on him. He was blown away, and it was great too see me beat in acceleration alone the old 300ZXTT. The one thing that I loved about the 300 was that you sat MUCH lower to the ground, much more cockpit like which was evident with the two cars next to each other. Anyway I am supposed to me up with a S2000 this weekend will let everyone know how that goes.

nissan swears that the 90 twin turbo rus a 15.0 in the quarter mile! This came from a book on the new z called "lust, then love" the story of the new z, by Ron Sessions. ive seen lower numbers, but they were from a 96 w/ 320 hp as opposed to the 300 hp in the 1990. i dont know why that car was so slow.
the new z runnin a 13.95 is excellent. those are similar times to the supra TT. and the 305 hp trans am. i think thats great actually for a car w/ only 287 hp( 290 w/ drop in k&n filter)
. and it weighin about 3250 lbs shows how efficient the drivetrain is!

I think it's really cool that the 350Z has equal to or better performance than a 300ZXTT. It does, however, suck that the 350Z doesn't have nearly the same power potential that the 300ZXTT does. The power you can squeeze from the TTs for relatively cheap is amazing.

That is true, the power potential is very limited, BUT after reading alot of the S-4 Forums and knowing two people that owned them it is interesting to see that their cars can't really handle much extra power. What does this mean? Just that if they were to make a FI engine for the Z, which would allow for the easiest increase of HP via mods, it would be either VERY exspensive or cheap but not able to handle a lot of upgrades.

The 300ZX TT responds well to mods partly because the block is really stout. The VG block is cast-iron w/ forged internals. It can handle a reasonably high level of boost if tuned properly.

hehehe 15s in a stock 300ZX? in a non turbo maybe... 14s were general magazine numbers for a stock twinturbo... but its obvious they didnt know how to launch the car... the suspension geometry of the 300ZX wasnt good at squatting... thus hindering the shift of weight to the rear and traction for good launches... if you can work it right you can get high 13s in a stock TT
and yeah i know mike... with the green 96TT... for him trust me it aint just mods that gets his 96 in the 12s... he can drive and more specifically launch his Z very well...
i own a 93TT myself with minor mods... and about 400hp i cant wait to see how a 350Z does against me from stoplight to stoplight on the freeway and through the canyons... hehehe too bad i have only seen one on the road so far..

easy there LA -Z i am not raggin on the 350Z I actually really want one... i bought my 300 used.... it cost me just a little less than a brand new base model 350... so ease up... you owned a Z32 before so you should understand where I am coming from in my desire to see the difference between the last generation z and new Z33...
excuse me for having a stageIII... maybe i should take off my exhaust, intake and ecu mods.... then will it be okay? and so what if i bought my 300 brand new and spent 40+ grand on it or not... you race what you got... and if i run into a stock/ modified/ whatever 350Z on the road and the driver wants to run... what am i gonna do say no, i have more horsepower in a car that was more expensive when new?
more and more i hang here, I realize how testy 350Z owners are... driving around with chips on their shoulders
always trying to justify their Z purchase... just be happy you own a Z and enjoy it for chrissakes... i plan on owning a Z32 and a Z33 together and i'll be proud to own both of them equally...

Nothing personal dood! I wasn't attacking your post, just saying that you vs. a stock 350Z isn't a fun or fair comparison in a race, and I love the old Z's as much as the new ones but I think stock by stock the 350Z will beat ( NOT by much) the 300zxTT in all categorys, esp. brakes, not a 300ZX's favorite.

Don't know how slick the streets are in Beverly Hills, but in Central Illinois you will have a hard time Spinning the tires on the new 350Z without what us Midwesterners call Wheel Hop. When I tried (several times) what you say you did I got the most severe case of wheel hop I have ever had since I had a 57 Chevy without traction bars and that’s been years ago!! The only way that I have found to launch this car is to bring the RPM's up to about 3500 and then ease the clutch out about half way and to maintain the gas until the ground speed and the engine speed are about the same. At that point you can release the clutch all of the way and floor the gas and go for it. That’s the way we used to have to do it in 1964 when we didn’t tires that were worth a damm for drag racing.

I have a very different experience with my 350Z. It will spin the rear tires as much or little as you want depending on clutch/throttle application, and I have NEVER had any wheel hop. Maybe it's the roads, or maybe the tires, or LSD (what model do you have?) Or maybe technique?
