Default Navigation Option, or aftermarket Navi?

Hi All !

My dad is about to order a 350Z, which will look great next to my R33 (all 33 family )

He's not sure about the Navigation option, as it's a hefty surplus...

Having seen pictures, it does look great, but I was wondering what's installed on normal Z's behind that panel? Are they standard DIN radio slots? In that case, I could install a Pioneer Navigation system, for instance, for quite a bit less...

Any experiences on the forum? Any aftermarket install pictures?

thanks

Simon

From what I've been reading , you are better off going with the aftermarket NAV. system. It's cheaper and it also offers you alot more options. I've decided to go with a DVD player in the stock location, I personally wouldn't have to much use for a NAV. system. Do a search in the Audio/Video forum, there are plenty of step by step set ups with pics. Hope that helps, good luck.

Personally I like having stuff stock.

The stock system would be more accurate since it is able to use some of the car's sensor to determite it's locations. It relies on those sensors when satellite is not available I think.

Also stock installes are likely to be better, less rattles and stuff.

Just my opinion....

look into the Z-PC. It is an in car pc that offers navigation and a whole lot more.

Contact Chazzg for more information. I have had it for well over a year now and it is STILL my most favorite of all my mods!

Thanks guys
The PC-thing is nice, but not for my folks...

From one of the threads, I read it should be possible to fit a 6-odd inches wide screen in the MY04 dash...

Has anyone done this yet for a MY04? Pictures?

The Navi DIN unit should then fit in the mailbox slot behind the seats, using the Nissan brackets and faceplate, IIRC. Does anyone have the correct part number for this?

Thanks !

Simon

both are good. I have a stock navi which I love and use ALL the time... the great thing aboutg the Z is the little compartment on the dash...it's PERFECT for an aftermarket navi, and if done right...IT WILL LOOK STOCK. Not feeling the empty look in there.

You should have a look at Pioneer`s AVIC-N1, I believe it`s called. That`s the one I`m checking out now. It has DVD, Navigation, and MP3 CD audio. Plus, it has vehicle dynamics on the screen.

The Pioneer avic-n1 is very nice indeed, but hella expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Hey elyliu, what color z you have? I'm from fullerton and i drive a SS z.

That's a single-DIN receiver, isn't it? How is it gonna fit into the stock stereo? I wanted to do the same too, but the local stereo store said they can't do it cuz they don't have the right bracket.

This probably sounds geeky, but I've been using my laptop with a GPS/NAV plug-in. It works great. I didn't want to spend $1800 for the Pioneer setup, but if the DVD/5.1/NAV setup is in your interest get it. My friend has one in his lexus is300 and it is/looks excellent.
