Default A/C puked and stopped working

I drove the my Z about 30 miles to go wakeboarding, came back and noticed it had puked a little coolant. on the drive back home the A/C would not blow cold air at all. Pissed me off cause it was almost 90. I heard my car run over a little something on the drive there but didn't think anything of it. Any ideas on what might have happened. I stored the car through the winter and took it out a couple months ago. Any help would be great. It only has 5K miles.

The stuff your seeing is not coolant, It is the Dye Nissan puts in the A/C line. The Most Common cause of A/C failure on the 350Z is a hole in the condenser. The Condenser is not protected very well on the Z, it can easily be hit buy a rock and punctured.

The retail on the condenser itself (from Nissan) is $365.00 but you should be able to get it for around $300. Now labor, to fix it, is something Different, I was quoted any where from $300 to $830 just for labor to fix mine, but mine turned out to just be a blown hi-pressure hose, that runs from the compressor to the condenser ($123.00 for the hose and 1 hour labor to fix it)

It keeps on dripping pretty rapidly for like 20-30 mins but stops. It leaks everytime after i drive it. Its been like this for 2 days but cant find where the liquid is coming from. If you are running the A/C and it looks like water (colorless), smells like water (odorless), then it probably is just condensation.

Nothing to worry about.

If you haven't been running the A/C, or if the liquid is colored, then you should get the car checked out.

The car's radiator is still full of fluid and there is a little bit in the overflow tank. I talked to the dealer and he said it seems like i would be covered under warranty. I'm dropping the car off tomorrow morning and will let you guys know what happened. Thanks for your help.

I didn't have my Z for 10 days when they repaired my A/C. All covered under warranty but wasn't a punctured condenser that was the problem. My A/C high pressure switch and harness had corrosion at the terminal connection. It was causing the switch to turn off the compressor when at a stopped. Good luck Jesse, keep us informed on your situation.

Default Update

OK, here's the situation. My partents went away for a weeks.....oh sorry got distracted. A clip holding a tube onto my new Injen CAI was rotated in such a way that it was in contact with the 300psi A/C line and actually rubbed a pretty good chunk of the line away leaving a pin size hole in the line. That caused loss of pressure and loss of A/C. With there being no joints in the A/C line which runs somewhere near the drivers side front tire well to back into the firewall, it all has to be replaced in one peice. Parts $50 (not bad) Labor $300-$900 (ouch). Luckily I took the car to the guy who installed the Intake and showed him what happened. Jay at Stay Tuned Motorsports in Spokane, Wa said if i buy the parts he would install them and re charge the system at no charge. Very nice of him i though. I've attached a pic of the clip location before and after i rotated it. It's pretty easy to see the hole. I guess $50-$100 is better than $350-$1000. Oh yeah the part is on back order should be here in 3 days to 3 months. Goos thing summer isn't coming.

You should take it and have it aluminum welded. Not tig or mig(can be done with those types of welding if you can find someone that knows their stuff) but aluminum welded with oxygen and acetelyne or mapp gas. Check you local radiator repair shop or welding shop.

I can repair that line as good as new. I will charge you $20.00 to repair it and you pay the shipping. Just box it up and send it to me with the return label in the box, along with a money order. Once I receive the line I will repair it and ship it back out possibly the same day depending on what time of the day I get it. Also don't forget when you recharge the system to pull a vacuum for at least 30 minutes and replace the oil (PAG oil) that was lost when the line was punctured. I would say somewhere around 1 ounce of oil but no more than that. PM me if interested.

hey 'azaz' i appreciate the offer but in order to get the line out in one peice i would have to have the dealer do it. It's like 6-10' long and all one piece. If I tried to take it out who knows what kinda condition it might be in or how bent it might get. The guy from Stay Tuned never called me back today so I might just have the dealer do it so it's certified and just make sure that clip stays rotated up. I also might call around to some A/C shops in the area to see if they can fix it. Good idea. Again i appreciate the offer but will pass. I have to drive the car this weekend anyway and hope to get it fixed sooner rathr than later.

No problem man if you change your mind I am here.

I haven't looked at mine to see how it comes out but all metal lines like that can be a pain. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Well the part only costs $50 but it's on back order and will take almost a month or even longer to get in. Anyone know of someone who has a spare A/C line??

You might want to check to see if it's the same part as goes on the Infiniti G35. I was able to order the part from Infiniti and I got it overnight. It cost about $80.
