normal is rattling when getting on it in 1st... and maybe when you shut down with the clutch out. something like the clutch plate usually makes these types of noises, and it can be ok.

unfortunately, by your description... you may want to take it back to the evil ones to be looked at.

the sound isnt when getting on it..it is when sitting at a stop w/o the clutch depressed...

the smell may be a degreaser....does anything think this may be it??????

The sound is normal. Every Z I've seen had the same rattle with the clutch out. I wouldn't worry about it. Now the smell part, your buring the clutch. Don't rev it so high before relasing the clutch. And Try not to slip to too much either. You'll get the hang out it.

I have the same problem, when I shift out of 1 and 2, and also when I shut down the car. Also, there is a lot of rattling when starting in 1 and a little when shifting to 2. The stick rattle too. I test drove one other Z, and it does not rattle, and the stick does a little, not as much as mine. I don't think it normal.

Rattling is normal when clutch is out, mine does the same thing. I leave the clutch in before shutting down the car to prevent the "rattling" sound. The stick is not supposed to rattle though, well at least mine does not.

About the smell, something is not right. I definitely don't have that problem.

The rattling is much more audible when in a garage, but less prevalent when, say, in a parking lot at the supermarket. Now if the rattling is unbearably loud, that warrants a visit to the dealer....

Saw the last line of your first post... established that your s/n translates to "technique"... thought your handle had something to do with the Tekken video game initially

Is it possible that you could use the forum search feature and stop being such a whiney hypochondriac?

Sheesh, what a waste of bandwidth.

i took my car into the dealer. for the first time i had a service tech do a test drive with me. he actually new what i talking about. i took in my car because of the famous rattle when the car is in neutral or when it turns off or a take off from first. the service tech states its normal. i also had a concern with the clunking noise when shifting from 1st to neutral or when the car is rolling at slow speeds. the service tech states its normal because of the tranny bouncing to support the new design of i believe the drive shaft. this was done so the drive shaft wont crack or break during high pressure. instead of using brass they used steel to for the drive shaft. what do you guys think.

...that, or I'm sick of newbies rehashing the same questions over and over and over again, consuming bandwidth and cluttering the forms with uneccessary crap.

I have both had my Z and used these forums for more than a year, and in that time this site has gone from bar-none amazing to cluttered, slow, and full of trolls and newbies.

Don't get me wrong; I have nothing against new people joining the site. The problem is that when people decide to post old questions and content without seeing if it has already been done, covering the same ground two, three, four times or more, it retards the progression of this community as a whole. It really seems to be a big problem right now and it is something that needs to be addressed.

This topic is a prime example.

Some people are new to posting in forums, don't be so quick to judge.

Instead of jumping on people for not using the "search" button, why not just tell them to use the "search" button in a nice way?

I agree though that the issue of "wasted bandwidth/rehashing the same old questions" should be addressed. We should probably have a "sticky" thread that says "People New To This Forum Please Read First!" that addresses issues like using the "Search" Button, proper netiquette like "don't type in all-caps, that is shouting" etc. That would be way more constructive than calling people "whiney hypochondriacs".

It has been done, and doesn't work. This is more me expressing my frustration than anything else.

Half of the problem is the subject matter these forums deal with is highly appealing to unintelligent ricer fanboys who lack the common sense to follow the "search before posting" approach, so perhaps it is unreasonable to think that this will ever change.

Seems to me that you're wasting bandwidth by just posting a message that talks about wasting bandwidth... LOL
