Default "Ping Pong" noise in 1st gear

I had my Z out with the windows down for the first time today and I heard a noise when I started to accelerate out of first gear (which sort of sounded like a ping pong ball bouncing).

I happened a few times when coming to a stop as well... has anyone heard this before? It's a 2003 performance by the way.

Thanks for your help

Are you using the correct octane gas? If not, the engine could be knocking/pinging.

I use 93. It's not that. It sound like it's coming from the rear of the car. It just started and I've had the car 1 1/2 years now.

My car is also having a similar problem. It only makes sort of grinding noise in the first gear during acceleration. Typically gets worse after I drive the car for more than 30 min. My car is only about a week old and the problem started from the first day.

Took the car back couple of days ago and dealer told me that it is normal and that all the z's are like that. I am going to observe for awhlie and see what happens.

it's probably your LSD.. Mine doesn't make that noise(or at least i don't notice it) and it's probably normal.. just have the dealer check that.

So, does that mean they will fix it for free, even if you are over 30K miles?
