Default Is my dealer stalling me? Should I get pissed?

I brought my '03 Z into the dealer about 5 weeks ago to address the tire cupping/feathering issue. It was a couple weeks after NNA issued the TSB that supposedly would take care of the problem for good. Well the guys at the dealership were pretty helpful and told me that I could expect new front tires, free of charge, despite the fact that I had 25k miles on the car at the time.

Well like I said, its been 5 weeks. When I call the dealer they always feed me the same line about how they put the order in to NNA and the tires are just back ordered, and I'll have to keep waiting. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT?!? Has anyone here gotten their new free tires, and if so, how long did it take? Do I have any grounds to be pissed here?

I don't really see how I can expedite the process here. Anyone have any suggestions how I can get my tires sooner than later? Much obliged.

yea, it sounds totally retarded. i would've insisted that they order the tires and wait till they came in before i gave them my car. what use is there in them keeping your car if they cant work on it? and as for the tires, its possible that they are still on backorder. most dealerships dont keep alot of tires in stock and considering the tsb was just recently released, then i could see how a bunch of people would put orders for the re040's at the same time and create a big backorder.

I simply bought the tires and had them installed somewhere else. Then I brought the car in for alignment at nissan dealer and filed the paperwork with Nissan myself. Got the check about a week later.

Oohhh, good thinking noahbuddy. I'll have to call them up and send that one by them. You're totally right, presuming I am completely reimbursed.

the tires were backordered at first. i had a friend that worked at a firestone store. he said that when the tsb first came out nissan ordered 60 sets of them and they didnt fill the order for a month. this was a few months ago though i would expect them to have more by now though

they called me when the tires arrived and i brought my car in when they called me. 5 weeks is crazy! It only took my dealer about 3 days to call me back and tell me that the tires arrived.

cheezname- I had to wait about 4 weeks, they were on major back-order in my region (Maryland) also your dealer seems to be taking pretty good care of you, considering the TSB calls for no charge tires up to 19,000 miles..you had stated you have 25k on yours. NNA stated that anything over 19k would be pro-rated.

ajk4- I don't think that he has left the car there while waiting for tires.

Considering I'm a dealer, or $tealer, as some of you call us, your only waiting 1 week longer than I did!

If I can be of any help, PM me.

the potenza re040 are on national back order from the factory. however, the nissan dealership should be able to get them in a week or two if it is warrenty work. other than that, you have to wait 3-4 weeks. which is what i was told. (got a nail in my rear tire, ordered it through tirerack, wont be here for 3-4 weeks. called around, said the same thing. only they charged 20-30 more per tire.)

Yeah, your right actually, the dealer has been very cooperative, and I was aware of the prorated tire coverage relative to tire wear, so I know they're helping me out...that's actually why I wanted to know what other people's experience had been, and wether or not it was time to get pissed.

Sounds like its not time yet, but getting there.

Oh yeah, and if it wasn't clear I didn't leave the car there after they inspected the tires (no way I could go 5 weeks without my z and not be INSANELY PISSED about it).

Can't they get the tires off another Z on the lot and then put tires on that one when they come in?..

The supply of tires seems fine now... at least in So.Cal. We just call our local tire suppier who delivers them in 1 hour or less. We try to do this while the customers wait. The tires do not come from Nissan but local tire shops and are charged to Nissan as a "sublet" on your repair order. Your dealer can buy the tires from ANY supplier anywhere. Even from me if they want... Push them... get your car fixed. Tell them what I said in this post.

Okay, as per all of your advice I spoke with the service dept. this morning and they said that if I can find a tire supplier that has the Bridgestones in stock they will order from them. So before I begin an serious internet search, do any of you guys (sp. jeff@performance, rjw0501) know if your local distributors have these tires in stock for sure?

As for the other suggestions, the guy I spoke with said if I go outside the dealer and get the tires installed, then present them with the installation bill, I would not be reimbursed (actual words "It doesn't work that way"). I didn't even ask if he'd pull the tires off a new car on the lot, b/c that would slow down a potential sale, and as good as this service dept. might be, they'd never do that.

Thanks for all the help...keep it coming.

Sorry... I left out an important fact... the 17's are on B/O but we do get them in a few days I have heard the availability is getting thin. The 18's are readily available. And yes, it has to be through your dealer not an independent.

We have just helped out 2 Forum members on the 18'S now. I believe they are being shipped to them as we speak. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything.... I need to have a supply for our So. Cal customers.
LinkNuc: if you need help... give me a call on Wednesday. I should be in the shop MOST of the day. I'll give you the hook up.

Well here is some closure for anyone still interested. After contacting Performance Nissan and confirming they had access to the tires I needed I called my service Department and told them to get in touch with Performance Nissan. They said they would then called me back five minutes later to say, suddenly, tirerack had the tires in stock and they would be delivered by Friday.

Morals of the story:
1. You need to sit on top of your service dept. b/c they just won't get the job done unless you pressure them to get it done.
2. Performance Nissan in awesome, and we're all lucky to have them as a resource. I will try to direct any/all business I can their way just because they were so honest/helpful/professional in the way they conducted themselves. Thanks guys.
