Smile A holistic way of thinking about things - for those who seem to be waiting forever

After waiting 265 days, I finally received my Z last Monday. The wait was brutal at times, especially when I saw people posting pics of their cars, and talking about their four week "wait" times.

At times, I felt like cashing my chips in and getting something else. Other times, I felt like waiting was the right thing to do. No matter what, I always felt that it wasn't fair that some of the early pre-order folks were at the back of the line in the build order. After all, in my mind, I should have had my car before anyone!

Then a funny thing happened on the way to a friend's house. I was driving along Route 80 one day in my Pathfinder, headed to a friend's house. Ahead of me is this monstrous semi with an equally monstrous dumpster on the back. This guy was obviously in a hurry, as he was doing 90 MPH and bobbing in and out of lanes to get ahead of traffic.

Sure as ****, the guy changes lanes ahead of me and spits a rock out of his dualie, which neatly cracks my windshield. Within a day, the crack had grown to cover most of the windshield, and I was in for a $600 repair bill.

The moral of the story? Everything in life happens for a reason. Had I been one of those first few people getting my Z, I would have cracked THAT windshield, instead of my truck's. And imagine the wait for THAT piece of glass, not to mention the fury I would have had to contain.

I realize my story isn't that dramatic, nor is it entirely that interesting. However, I hope that this may serve as a way to help out some of those who have been waiting eons for their car, and are on the brink of cancelling their order. The wait is worth it, believe me. Everything in life happens for a reason, and if avoiding a cracked windshield was the reason for my wait, then I'm A-OK with that.

To all those still waiting -- hang in there. Your day will be here before you know it. And once it gets here, you'll forget all about the wait.

Yes, my child, this too shall come to pass.... hopefully #$%#$% sooner than later...

I'm biting the keys of my computer and feel sorry for my poor Z32 ...since she has and does take care of me everyday... but I feel guilty ..... since I am waiting for my Z33, my new passion.

I will not fall by the wayside .. like S2000 rai...

Thanks for the comments. I am now in one of my down cycles on this emotional roller coaster of a wait. I know the car will be a lot of fun. I have sat in 3 or 4 of them and so l know how well it will fit. I have read every report on this board and talked to a few who have their cars so I know my car will be a real blast to drive. I have even seen the exact color/interior combination (Thanks again C Ray Z) so know I will love the way it looks.

But I have no idea when the car will get here. My dealer is useless. Bugging him just makes me madder. ARGHHH!!!

Waiting, **** POOH, I thought you would have your ETA by now, or the car. I just tried to send you a LONG pm, and I hit the wrong key and it was gone. Check your pms, it may have gotten through, I hope. If it didn't, I'm sorry. But! You are going to have the time of your life when you get your car. I guarantee it! I got mine a month ago and I have had little time to enjoy it.

Lately, I am getting out more and more and I am having so much fun with the automanual, more fun than the MT, and I've had a dozen of them. The manual shift is so unusual that I am starting to use it almost anywhere I go. I move in and out of the two gates without thinking. And the sound! When I'm using it in manual, going from 2000rpm to 4000 it sounds like a Jag XKE! It will go from 40-80mph in 4 secs with my 295lbs and my friend's 165lbs and 100 is just under 4000rpm. Everyone who sees the car is so effusive in their praise for the color combo, It makes me a little nervous, like 'Gone in 60 Seconds", car theft movie.

I've opened it up twice in the last two weeks, one to save my wife's and my life from being crushed between 2 18 wheelers, and one on purpose, showing off to a friend. I was cruising along a road leading just out of town and I just pushed the throttle to the floor and we were "Slammed" back into our seats harder than I've ever been before. My friend said he could only compare it to a ride in a '79 Trans AM WS6, one of the 400C.I. V8 torque monsters, his remark, I've never ridden in one. I figure cruising at 40 and flooring it, kicked it down to 2nd gear and produced some real pyrotechnics neither of us were prepared for. I took my foot off the gas immediately because I was so startled. I think some of us old timers are gonna need LSD, VDC and all those other devices when we attack a good stretch of fast, curvy road we are so fond of. I love it. You will too.

Did you ever think that if you had the Z you would have been driving faster so you would never actually be behind the truck in the first place? Or you might have taken a more scenic rout to your destination if you had the Z ??

I just bought a 03 S2000 saturday after deciding friday night so my wait was like 12 hours. My co-worker got his new S2000 the same day after waiting for like 3 months. And he got stuck with a 2002 (for the same price as I payed for a 2003). There are a lot of people waiting for their S2000's they ordered a while back and I just do a little web surfing and get the color I was looking for just an hours drive from my house.

I don't know if that means anything like carma or mojo??

Pooh, drop an email to Zisme with your order details. I'm sure he will get you your VIN and ETA.

Hey, if my chaotically flawed way of thinking helps me through the day, then that's Kool and the Gang.

Hope this wasn't misconstrued as a dig against you, Rai. I'm cool with you getting the S2K, I just wanted to try to do my part to improve the mood of anyone who's down in the dumps about not getting their car yet. It's tough to sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else having all the fun (believe me, I know).

I definitely hope you enjoy the S2K -- it's a hell of a car.

I was only posting because I know about waiting.

There are good things about waiting. You can save up more money, the car can go through some quality improvements. What have you.

I am just saying there is no telling what tomorrow may bring.

I bought my S2000 for a number of reasons, one being it's availability. That is not the primary reason. I don't think it is a better car than the Z. Just different.

Scafreman,

Contacting Zisme is good advice. I just got a PM from another buyer from my same dealership. He called our salesman and was told that they had his VIN and that his car would be in any day. The VIN must have been on the system for over 3 weeks and they never called. @#^$^%^%&*^&$%^#!!!

I'll give my dealer a call and then contact Zisme if I get no information.
