2004 needs whole system not just HU
So I took my Z to Tweeter to have the head unit replaced. Come to find out that for me to get a new head unit in, I would need to replace everything, because the computer in the car is dependent on this. Has anyone else run into this issue? The tech stated that there should be an adapter available within the coming months which would alliviate this problem. Has anyone encountered a fix for this yet?
No such thing. I installed the Kenwood 915 into the Z leaving the stock speakers and amp. No problem whatsoever. All you need is the wire harness and dash kit. In fact, changing the headunit is a good temporary fix from the crappy oem Bose headunit. If you have nav, maybe someone else can chime in and help.

he's feeding you a line. do you have navigation? if so you will lose the voice by changing out the head unit but nothing else is an issue. if they were competant they can actually re-hook up the nav voice.
my advice - go somewhere else (or better - do it yourself - it's incredibly easy)

Yeah, I thought everything had to be changed as well, but it doesnt. Also, make sure the antenna is plugged into the headunit when you try turning it on the first time. When I installed my headunit, I didn't plug in the antenna and tried turning it on...it wouldnt turn on. I plugged in the antenna and the damn headunit turned on. I have the sony 7700 so it maybe just for that.
