Default contemplating a z...

hey guys,

just registered for this board to see if maybe some of you could help me out. i drive a 2003 wrx right now but ive been thinking about trying to either part out or trade for a 350z.

have any of you seen anyone on this board thats been looking to trade for a wrx?

any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. i just thought maybe someone on here had seen somebody that was interested in a wrx.

thanks in advance.

Curious why you want out of the WRX?
I am guessing it's not an STI

mainly because i dont see my modding ever really coming to an end with the wrx. ive already done quite a bit but i still have so much i had planned on doing.

i also would rather have a sportier two-door car than the wrx.

if i cant find anyone interested, it wont be too upsetting. i love the subaru but figured if i could find a fairlady before upgrading my turbo then i would probably do it.

ive just always loved the 350 but bought the wrx because it seemed much more practical.

another reason, which probably seems a bit childish, is that several kids from around my town have recently bought wrxs. there arent many 350s around here and id like to have something a bit more unique.

btw, it isnt an sti.

WRX's have a severe lack of top end. There are alot of modifications available, but there is also alot of bottlenecks to overcome to get those vehicles ready to run with the higher dollar sports cars over 100 mph. Also you have to worry about replacing clutches after those extreme AWD launches at the drag strip.

I had considered getting one but I've already owned an Eclipse GSX and I probably won't go the AWD Turbo 4cyl route again.
If I purchase a 350Z it will be my daily driver and I'm still debating its practicality. Right now the Z is in the lead though.

Mississippi ha, being that you don't have snow the Z will be a practical daily driver. It's driving in winter snow that one will immediately see how impractical the 350Z is.

Most rear drive cars are impractical in the snow.

<-- 04 Z, didn't get the "tire feathering" option...

7K miles, no issues, get the Z.

Actually.. now that you mention it.. has Nissan said anything about an specific date from where you can tell if your car will come with that "option" ??..

I've heard that some 04's have the "feathering issue" and others don't..

lots of people with 04s and 04.5s have less than 5k miles, so it's hard to tell. i've only seen one report of an 04.5 with feathering, but i've only seen a few reports of 04.5s with > 5k miles. here's a poll and a thread with a decent amount of info about the problem:

^ Thanx for the info ml2316..

I don't have my Z yet but this is good to know.. I was thinking of buying used and save a few $.. but with this impending issue it seems like I'll be spending more time at the dealership than on the road..

btw, i have a wrx and was recently very close to buying a z or rx8. but when i started heavily researching both cars i noticed all these little annoying problems about them (z is mainly just feathering, but rx8 is gas mileage, oil consumption, poor acceleration, etc). i'll be the first to admit the wrx is a "souped up econobox", but i have to say the wrx is a pretty well made car.

Then we are on the same boat..

I'm out looking for a new car.. and my eye were on either the EvoVII, STi, 350Z or RX8.. the Evo and STi are down on the list cuz I had a knee operation recently and per Dr.'s orders.. I shouldn't drive sticks.. and the RX8 was the big let down.. not what I expected after I test drove it..

And now the Z has a few issues that ain't pleasing to hear.. and that my friend is my dilemma..

i know it well (except for the knee issue). i'm going to wait it out until after the 05s hit the lots. hopefully someone will confirm that the rumored suspension redesign is for real. or maybe someone will eventually confirm the 350evo control arms (or some other aftermarket parts) fix the problem.

It's funny...I also have an 03 WRX and I'm ready for something new. I fell in love with the looks of the Z as soon as it came out. I still haven't decided between the 350 and the G35, but I'm leaning towards the 350. It's hard because the WRX is such a great car with no problems at all. I really wish the tire feathering issue could be fixed, because I'd already be in a 350. The G35 has the brake issues!?!? So it's kind of a pickle. Plus there is a guy in my area that is selling his 2003 Touring 5100 miles, Blk/Blk for only 28K....and I'm sure he would come down some! I'd really like to see those control arms work!
