Default Does anyone else notice this when they shift gears?

Right when I let off the gas to shift gears, the rpms on the tachometer rise about 200 rpms. It's strange because the rpms rise for an fraction of a second when I let off completely on the gas.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is the tachometer lagging or something?

Yup, happens to me too. Don't know why, just adjusted to it though. I've never seen another manual do this.

I noticed that too, but it seems because I push in clutch at the same time when I let off gas.
If you make sure to let off gas then push in clutch, the rpm will
not go up.

No, it's not the shifting, it has something to do with the electronic throttle body. My 03 Altima SE did the same exact thing.

It could be the clutch. I've had this happen to me, and it's most demonstrable when you're coasting to a stop. Let up on the clutch at the last possible minute, and the RPMs go up. I think it may be rotational inertia of some sort.

The gearbox on the Z is among the weirdest and most precise I have ever shifted on. This also makes it the hardest to drive on, during normal street driving. It is excellent for racing tho.

This happened to me too. I personally think its the lag of the throttle body. Now I know it happens to you guys too.

It is the 'drive by wire' throttle system. The car tries to make the shifting as smooth as possible. To get this, the rpms rise a lil bit so that by the time you change gears, you would not have lost any momentum.

I agree. I've noticed that when I'm driving cruising around town, the tranny clunks, and grind. But when I drive it hard, the tranny is perfect. I guess the Z is made to be driven hard.

I saw the same question on either this forum or on another site.

Guess that is inteded to perform the way it does.

If I remember correctly, it was meant to improve the emissions on the car (I guess to fully burn any rich fuel conditions). It sounded weird at the time, but may be it is true.

I completely agree, although I do not have a 350Z. When shifting under normal driving conditions, I have to wait a bit for the RPM's to drop a bit for a smooth gear change. However, when I'm WOT past 4K rpm I can switch gears without letting the RPM's drop; not only can do I this, but it is super smooth too.
