Default Scraping sound when moving from parked

I'm noticing this slight short scraping or grinding sound when my Z starts rolling after being parked for a while. Actually, I can feel it through my feet more than I can hear it. It only happens if I have parked the Z for a bit, and only when I initially start rolling.....then it's gone. Anyone have any idea what this is, and is it normal for the Z?

I have the answer.

Next time, do not park so close to the curb,. That sound you hear is your front end scraping the curb.

Hell, I have no idea!

ROFL... I love that avatar. That thread is just hillarious.

Back on topic, I'll be on a completely flat surface with no objects around and it does that. I don't think it's harmful, though.

I'm taking my Z in for a new pair of front tyres, in a few weeks. I'm thinking of asking them to check out this grinding noise, but I don't want them to mess up my Z in the process.......so maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. She's been running perfect except for the very slight feathering at 8.5K (I'm surprised they're willing to give me new tyres ) and this subtle grinding noise, which is not even an issue if it's suppose to do that. Hence, that's what I'm trying to find out.

does it sound like you're stepping on an empty coke can? I had that on my audi, it was the ABS.

They have discs that can be harmed! That's why one doesnt want to buy brake pads the metal implanted! Might give you the same bad sound --

Is this the one where it sounds like a slight scraping of metal on metal when you go slowly past 1800 rpm? I have no idea what it is either, but I've had that since the beginning.

I wondered that myself, then I checked the manual on page 5-21 explains it all. The car has a self-testing Ant-Lock Braking System diagnostic feature each time you start up the car. You'll hear a clunk noise and maybe pulsation of the brake pedal. It's all normal and it's all good

Good heads up. I live on a fairly steep road, so every time I back my Z out of the drive way then proceed to go down hill to the stop sign I hear and feel the ABS kick on for only 1 second then gone. I feel better now. Thanks for the info. BEN

Actually, I believe it is the brake pads against the disc. The pads are compressed against the disc with the parking brake set and "break loose" after the brake is released and the car starts to roll.

Well, not quite. The original poster of this thread needs a parking brake adjustment. Many others with that minor scraping sound when first rolling need it too. The parking brake IS actually some small shoes operating on the internal drum which is the hub of the rear brake rotors.
