Default clutch burning smell

Ok i have a 2003 touring 6 speed. I drove up to my college to visit some buddies and i pull up and there is smoke and a bad bad burning smell from my car. As if i was riding the clutch or if i really burned the hell out of it...but as far as i know i didn't. Then today i was sitting at wendys and it happened again...little bit of smoke...and bad burning, like i had left my parking brake on or something. But i def. didnt' do anything wrong this time. (last time i thought maybe i had ridden the clutch by mistake MAYBE) So has anyone had this problem? The first time i gave it the benefit of a doubt thinking maybe i did ride the clutch..but the second time i know i did nothing wrong then all the sudden this bad burning smell...ahhhh

Make sure you when you start driving, to put your parking brake down. And learn to drive your car better.

Hey Bobs, you're no fun. I wanted to say "stop riding the clutch". On the serious side, I'm sorry that I have no real suggestions, Dave Someone will though, I'm sure.. GL2U

You're not alone, there are many posts out there talking about this same thing. I have the burning smell also, and I been driving a clutch for over 20 years! It's like burning rubber or plastic. Have NOT seen any smoke though! That's something I would take to the dealer. The burning smells comes and go's for me, not sure what it is exactly.

Have you been to a grocery store lately? I would bet you ran over a grocery bag and it melted to your exhuast somewhere. It takes a long time to burn off.

hah nice comments..duh the parking brake...i think i would notice that. I also put it up on the lift to look for stuff underneath and i can't find anything. Yea its a burning smell...seems to only happen after i have been driving real fast on the highway in 6th gear. the first time it happened i was doing 95mph for like 5 min and then pulled off to the exit in my school and it smelled horrible and there was even some smoke like i had the parking brake on (but it wasnt') and then today it happend after pulling off the highway and grabbing a bite to eat but no smoke this time. I already called my dealer..they are going to fix the cracking noise in the rear (there is a tsb out for it like many of u have said) and they will look into the burning smell. We will see what happens. I bought the extended warranty by nissan on the driveline and tranny so i'm not to worried about it.

The only time i've smelt clutch is when i've stressed it. Huge hill in traffic, etc. Not very often. I'd say if you have that under normal driving conditions you have a problem.

As did I and I am glad to hear that. Also I am coming up on 22,000 miles and that warranty never looked so good!
