Dear Nissan, in the next redesigned Z, we want to see...

Styling- everything I've read including the statements from the Nissan brass seem to point to evolution.
You guys that actually think the 370 will weigh less than the 350 crack me up.
While I would love to see that, it's NOT going to happen. Look at how much weight the other nissans gain when they're redesigned, esp. the G37C.

I've yet to see where any of this speculation is coming from.
Still...
That doesn't rule it out.
1. I feel the G35 is shifting to more of a luxo market, to steal more of the Lex market...... = >weight
2. the prototype that we've seen with all the camo armor appears to me to be a slightly smaller car than the 350Z

Basically what we've read so far on weight etc. has been speculation. I agree the tendency with each successive generation seems to bloat the new model.
I'm in the camp that is doubtful but open minded to what might happen.
Comparing the G37C isn't really the same thing. Infiniti is clearly moving the car upmarket with improvements in materials, refinement for a more "luxurious" car to compete with BMW and Lexus. That makes a lot of sense with that brand. It also makes sense that the Z will deepen it's roots and diverge further from the G moving towards it's natural competitors (S2000, Z4M, Boxster, Cayman etc) by becoming more performance oriented. That may mean slightly smaller and less weight.

For instance, instead of wanting just a better air conditioner, says Yamash!ta, Nissan wants a better and lighter A/C unit. Over the last 10 years, weights of new cars have gone up an average of 483 lbs. Finally, it appears, Nissan may be listening...
i would like to see 2 motors offered one single turbo(more expensive than NA but less than the gtr) and a NA-both with multiple trim levels etc etc etc..and within the trim levels they have a luxury class( i know it is now its the g35/37) but you can have it with all the bells and whistle(aka push button start and all your fancy stuff) both models can be equiped with a nismo package...now i already know making all these diff. trim levels and models etc etc can be expensive for nissan but i think it would work out for the best in the end...idk my 2 cents

This is a quote from Olivier Paturet, chief product specialist at Nissan,
“We’ve seen what Porsche is doing with the Cayman, and I would like our new car to have more power, less weight and be more driver-focused”
Yes, you might be right and Nissan might fail at this goal, but I really hope you're wrong.

2003 Nissan 350Z Coupe (Base) = 3188 lbs (first year of production)
heaviest 300ZX Coupe was 1996 Nissan 300ZX Turbo Coupe (AT) @ 3541 lbs
heaviest 350Z Coupe was 2003-05 Nissan 350Z Touring Coupe (MT) @ 3427 lbs
looks like its not THAT impossible to put a bigger motor in a car, give it more power, and drop the weight.

I don't know why you're so busy arguing that there will be a weight increase. No one knows for sure but early indications from Nissan suggest weight reductions or at least major diet control.
