Am I the only one who thinks the mule isn't the next Z, rather a 240? I doubt the Z's wheelbase and length would shrink THAT much...

Not too sure about the hard-top convertable, but it would sure look nice.

I don't see why the 240 would be benchmarking against a Cayman.

To go with the above though, I would still love to see an S16 come about. Replace the Altima coupe with it.

The new wheelbase (roughly 97 inches) is on par with all of its pure sports car competition, as well as some less powerful models such as the Solstice/Sky. S2000 wheelbase is 94.5 by comparison. What's more important is how well the weight is distributed over the span of that wheelbase while remaining relatively comfortable for the passengers.

Putting it that way makes more sense. I guess Nissan wants to clearly distinguish the dimensions and sportiness between the next Z and the much anticipated GT-R. Let's just hope the diminutive proportions will result in a substantial weight loss!

That's what I'm saying. I posted a thread from another source (I think it got deleted) with the same pics and they said the 350z panels were used/adjusted for the shorter wheelbase.

We all know there's sites that steal and use pics from other articles and come up with a new story.

I'm going with the one I saw.

There will be a small rear wheel coupe from Nissan, but this isn't it.

If you read this the thread here you'll see that, because it's kinda obvious from all of the clues.

If you don't see it... God bless you.

At first i was disappointed with the shorter wheelbase. But as long as it has short overhangs it will look fine. I'm excited to see the z34. Hopefully real pics late this yr or early 08.

I dont think nissan would test a cheaper rwd coup with 19 wheels and big brakes. I don't think nissan will bring out a cheaper rwd coup because that would mean using fm platform.

It is pretty conceivable that the new small rear wheel drive coupe could use the FM platform. With an all aluminum e4 cylinder engine and a minimalist approach interior, the weight could approach the 2840 lbs of the Solstice or even the 2460 of the MX-5. I won’t even mention the traditional Silvia competitors of the Eclipse (3200- 3400lbs) or the Tiburon (2900- 3100 lbs), they are grossly overweight. The shortened FM of the new Z is also close to the 95 inches of the Solstice. Plus, they would save a ton of money in the process.

This scenario is probable due to the limited use for an all new rear wheel drive platform. What other models could they derive from it (that will sell) to spread the cost? With Nissan being very cost conscious lately I can’t see the investment in a new platform with questionable earnings potential.

You never know though…

Remember, this will also be the 1st year of a new gen Z. Like the 2003-2004, I would expect some bugs needing working out. So if this model follows suit with a mid-year upgrade, like the 2004.5 was, you are looking at 2010 for the bug-fix model.

I wonder why they're being so secretive about the new Z, the G coupe concept has been out over 2 years.

The competitor that was around during that time (the 1G and 2G DSM's) did not weigh that much. They were under 3000lbs (especially the 1G... I think it was between 2700-2800).

That weight target sounds about right.

No I suggested a few posts before that this could be the next 240SX but called a 250SX and have the new VQ25HR motor. And one source suggested this could be the Test muel version of that XBox concept car nissan showed a while back.
