From autoblog:
There have now been two sets of spy photos that have turned up showing a development mule wearing a hacked up Nissan 350Z body. At first everyone assumed it was a Nissan vehicle. However, in the background of the most recent batch of spy photos, a mystery car has been identified by our readers as one of the Lexus LF-A prototypes.
Since the photos were taken on public roads, it seems highly improbable that the LF-A would just happen to be in the same location as Nissan's latest mule. Taking a look at the Z mule in profile shows proportions pretty close to the FT-HS concept that turned up at the Detroit Auto Show. So this truncated Z is more likely a test platform for a production version of the FT-HS/Supra/whatever you want to call it that's been cleverly disguised in the clothes of another brand.
This might explain why the hatch is hacked up? Same vent location as the lexus... hmmm
But then again, prolly not.

No, it just proves that the car is indeed Nissan owned, and not a Toyota mule as speculated in the Autoblog article.

IMO, the shorter wheelbase is a welcome sight, since it will most likely reduce the total body weight. The middle section behind the rear speakers is mostly dead space. We don't really need that section if the car gets shorter wheelbase. Just the rear trunk will be sufficient
Maybe we can see 3000-3100lbs, with 3.7L 330+ hp?

I totally agree.
I think the z in it's current form is too large. The space directly behind the seats is almost totally wasted. Just shave off that space, remove the spare tire and it would almost double the usable trunk space while making the car smaller and lighter.
Name me one other modern day sports car that even comes with a spare tire.
(not the rx-8, corvette, bmw z4, porsche cayman, or boxster, etc).

Well I think its just the right size..im 6'6" I need the Z to be at least the current size on the inside......As for the spare tire? After a blow out 300 miles away from home I have come to appreciate the spare tire
There are many ways to keep the current size and still be light...The base Z33 is 3160lbs.....Not exactly heavy.....Imagine if they went with lighter exhaust/cats, brakes, wheels etc it would be even lighter while still being the same size. Z33 owners can get the car down close to 3000lbs without hacking up the car and removing necessary things...BTW that 3160 is with a spare tire right???Remove that 30lbs with a can of flat fix and you have around 3130 before using any lighter components...Amuse titanium exhaust would bring that number way under 3100lbs and thats just one item.....It can be done without cutting up the car and making it smaller imho...
