MotorAuthority--Nissan 370Z gets 332hp, rev-matched manual transmission 11.11.08
#62
That is exactly what Im was trying to get at...So it would appear that the VQ37 would be making about 350hp under the old rating but 332hp under the current sae rating...This car should be a bit faster than the e46 M3 with its weight advantage and power. I deffinately see high 12's @110 mph being possible though of course there are other variable involved like gearing etc...Cant wait to see the 370z numbers on a 1/4 track...
Also, the M3 had very agressive gearing and great traction at launch.
But it was ~3400 pounds, and the 370Z should at least be under that.
So it's probably a wash and they will accelerate about the same, maybe faster for the 370Z. But the power and weight ratings are still up in the air, so who knows.
As for the Rev-match, it's software-based, and supposedly can be disabled. Worst case is that it annoys you and you turn it off.

I know this is kinda repeat information but this is all I could find at this moment. I kinda feel like getting "blue balled" by Nissan if this is all they are going to release.

I know this is kinda repeat information but this is all I could find at this moment. I kinda feel like getting "blue balled" by Nissan if this is all they are going to release.
Just last week Nissan released the first official image of the upcoming 2009 370Z Coupe, which is set to make its world debut at this month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, and now details of the car have emerged courtesy of the show's site. The new info reveals the car will feature a seven-speed automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual equipped with the world's first rev-matched downshift function.
The all-new 370Z is the first full redesign of the iconic Nissan Z since the introduction of the previous generation model back in 2003, and it is set to go on sale early next year as a 2009 model. The new model is expected to be somewhat shorter and trimmer than the current car, accentuating the flared wheel-arches and short overhangs even further.
The biggest change, however, will be the introduction of Nissan’s latest 3.7L VQ37VHR V6 engine in the Z as confirmed by the 2009 model’s new name. This is the same engine as found in the Infiniti G37 Coupe, and in the new Z-car application, it will make 332hp (247kW). Torque should be close to the 366Nm (270lb-ft) of torque the engine generates in the G37. The innovative rev-matching downshift feature on the six-speed manual transmission is sure to draw both praise and complaints, as enthusiasts lose one more aspect of control over the car.
Also new is the rear quarter panel area around the hatch, where the window line sweeps upward, giving the car a bit of a familial resemblance to the sword-like design of the GT-R. The real-life photos show the design clearly, and come courtesy of The 370Z forums, where an aficionado with a quick lens captured the car at what looks to be an enthusiast reveal session in Europe.
One of the biggest criticisms of the current 350Z is its drab interior and poor quality materials, however the interior shot reveals that Nissan has added nicer plastics and extra color options for the cabin. Other changes include the shark fin-style headlamps and LED daytime running lights.
Nissan thinks the new Z will have what it takes to contend with the Porsche Cayman, and it's already said it will be targeting the German sports carmaker with its latest coupe. If you look closely at the spy video below you'll notice Nissan was testing the 370Z back to back with a BMW Z4m Coupe, and a Porsche Cayman S.

It's kinda like how heel&toe works.
let's say from 6th at 80mph about 3000 rpm.
you step on clutch rev go down to 1500 or around that and if you shift to 5th usually car will have some impact if you don't release clutch at right RPM.
so it's will reving(by it self) to matching down shifting.
get some idea ?

Remember when everybody got all excited about the "official pics release" a week ago... and it was just 3 measly shots...
They didn't say they are releasing "all official specs of all models/trims" on November 11th.
Who knows...
It's called "keeping public interest/building hype" in marketing... and I think Nissan has done a good job with a somewhat unconventional campaign this time with the 370Z, building and keeping interest. They know their best bet is through enthusiast channels, a little bit at a time.

I keep wondering about these "surprises" they said they have in store. Wouldn't it be interesting to let out the "rumor" of 332HP then in actuality come out with..say 345HP? That 345 would have a much bigger meaning than just saying 345 to begin with. First you kind of disappoint many then cause tremendous excitement when it really comes out with more.
Might create a "rush" to get one in my opinion. But we'll see...

I'd bet it's the same tranny as in the G37, which seems to be holding up just fine.
But if you're implying the rev-matching effects the tranny... it doesn't. It's just software. If anything, it might make the tranny/clutch last longer from improper rev-matching by inferior manual tranny drivers on a day to day basis.

so...umm what is that you don't like? 332 HP or the rev matching manual?
Kinda true. I guess this is way of creating hypes. Well here's the actual sentence
Why?
You can get the automatic without rev matching

We're looking forward to the first release of official photographs of the new car on October 29, followed by technical information on November 11.
Why?

I love it when I'm right...
From my focus group post:
"Engine - confirmed that it would be the 3.7, with 330hp. No 0-60 times were discussed nor curb weights.
Transmission - One thing that kept being brought up was the rev-matching. I thought nothing of it since it is something we have all been hearing for some time now with auto-trans Z's when shifting into manual. They asked what we thought about the following "worlds first rev-matching manual" I will let you guys determine if this is even plausible."
