Default It makes too much sense I guess 370 v. C6

Have these cars been compared and contrasted as of yet? Which one would be the smarter buy? The Vette is lighter and has about 100 more HP (rough estimate)...I guess it would make too much sense to purchase the vette over the 370. Can anyone give a breakdown of the stats for each vehicle? Mathematically, which one is the smarter buy?

Vette and Z are not in the same category. Sure you can buy a vette at steep discounts for now. But do you really wanna buy a car from a car company that is on the brink of failing?
Just my opinion but I wouldn't consider it.

Assuming you can get a deal on a base vette for around 43K, and a similarly equipped Z (touring, sport) is probably around 36K. It just depends on the if the power and performance difference is worth 7K to you. I still think the vette is the best bang for your buck if you crave raw speed and performance. If you want something cheaper that will still put a smile on your face then the Z is a great value.

the smart buy would be a C5Z since its half the price of both yet outperforms both

And out of warranty.

The Vette has always been a helluva performer for the money. No question.

But if you want a little bit of style, luxury (dare I say it?) and comfort with your speed, then the 370Z is an excellent value as well.

Personally, I'd take a Z as a daily driver than the Vette. If I wanted the track performance, really there are better alternatives than either car.

I personally am looking more towards the lightweight, lower HP, Lotus Elise. I figure if I'm going to spend 40k on a car I'll get one that stands out and doesn't blend in with the crowd of 3 million corvettes I see daily. Around here the Corvette is as common as an escalade, or H2. someone w/ something to prove? buy a vette. if not buy something else.

C6 over the 370z anyday. Considering you can get your hands on one for under 40k these days it's a better bang for the buck. As for GM going under, it's just all the more reason to try to get into a vette for cheaper. Still, you can't go wrong with the Z either. I think the Z will corner better but in a straight line forget it. As for comfort the vette makes a great DD. Anyone who says it isn't comfortable doesn't belong in a sports car

This is an issue I have seriously been considering also. I absolutely love the corvette and everything it stands for, but I also love the Z. I have found multiple, slightly used 07 C6's for $29-33K which is awesome. I could probably get into a Z51 C6 for close to $35K and that would just blow the Z away. Yes the corvette is an amazing car and I think it is comfortable, its just that the interior is so ugly in the sense that it is just designed wrong. Chevy offers nicer interior materials, but that's not what I care about, the design of the corvette interior is the flaw.

I could live with it seeing that it packs 430HP, but I love the Z's driver centricness. And even though the corvette will out due the Z, I'll probably end up getting the Z.

Car preference is not just about performance.

C6 corners better.

The question is whether a 370z w/ Touring and Sports package is better than a 2009 C6 3LT Z51 6MT. They are going to be very similar in price. I've been on the Corvetteforums a lot and to this date, there are no problems with the car that are particularly widespread like the clutch issue with the 07+ Z.

There was a clutch recall for the 07 model but I never had any problems even before I had the recall done. She runs even better now 10,000+ miles later.

either or is a good choice. But after see'ing the new z i think it looks better than a porsche and a corvette. I dont think i even care if it has less power than the vette, i really think its just a beuatiful car.

I dont know where you guys are finding these vettes for those prices, but Im surely not seeing it any where near me. Also, I guess a warranty doesnt matter much to you guys.

A one or two year old vette will still be under warrenty. Also you have to keep your eyes open but they are out there. Just the other day I saw an 05 with ultra low miles going for 29k at the dealer. You could probably talk them lower too. Also if you are looking at a new Vette of course they are still going to ask MSRP. Now once you actually show them you are serious about the car and have spent some time at the dealer they will drop the price. Also there are a lot of internet deals going. A cheap Vette just won't fall into your lap but if you look around and do some research on it you can do it. I know ghattisman, a member here, traded in his 350z not to long ago for a new Vette. From what I remember he got a great deal on it and it all started with seeing something posted on a message board.

I was thinking the same thing....

Me, I refuse to buy a vehicle from a company who's CEO flies to Washington on a private corp jet and walks off with a tin cup in his hand asking for a bail out so American tax payers can pay his $9 million dollar a year salary.
