Default 370Z 7 spd auto faster than 6 mt

Just got my Nov C&D. There is a short article about the 370Z automatic.

"Fuel economy is the same as the manual's and the automatic is quicker, too."

Just FYI, I drive a 6 MT, and would never buy an auto sports car. But is only because I like MTs, not becasue I believe the MT is faster.

I wouldn't want a strictly auto with a sports car, but I could live with paddle shifters.

I don't care, it's still about a driving experience to me, and you need an actual real clutch with a pedal the driver has to push, to get the full feel of a car and truly enjoy it. Paddle shifters are a load of crap, a well programmed auto transmission can shift more accurately than a driver can anyway.

Everytime I've seen tests by magazines, they aren't the best at launching or pushing cars to their limits...so the times might even be better!

7 speed allows for aggressive gearing.

umm.. with the right driver, i promise you the MT would be faster. you cant launch as hard with an auto as you can with a manual. it just takes the right driver who knows what he is doing to beat a MT pretty easily. average drivers in both, the MT will more than likely win most of the time.

The extra gear and the continual accelleration while shifting could easily overcome the launch advantage, and a properly stalled auto can launch very hard, and much more consistently, than a manual trans. Once you leave the drag strip though, an auto is just not fun.

The 3 fastest track times I've seen so far have all been in autos plus this article has the fastest reviewed stock Z car ever. Nissan may have pulled off the impossible here. That said, the Z really isn't supposed to be a strip car.

That makes sense. The AT is has quicker shifting ability (esp. paddle) than MT (of course MT is more fun & even more so with the SynchroRev). I did read somewhere (I think it was Edmunds?) that Nissan expects 80% of the buyers to choose the AT...(at times I wish I had an AT...like on the 45% grade hill in SF at a stop sign )

Oh yeah in that case I'm sure the MT can launch better.

My auto G35 is really fun in the twisties.. You get to concentrate more on the sharp cuts and blind turns all you have to do is move the shifter between 2-3 and sometimes 4th by just slapping it lol.

Unless you're an Aryton Senna or something it may be a pain in the twisties with an MT.
