It was an interesting experience to say the least. I noticed a lot of similarities to my G on the interior. Lot's of little things that you notice right away. NAV display, gauges, steering wheel feel, etc.
Impressions I took from the drive.....
1. Transmission was not like anything I have driven before. I put it in manual 1and gave it some gas, but it did not roll forward like a regular automatic. I thought the parking brake was on and had to ask the owner what was going on. Gave it some more gas and the tranny engaged a little under 1000 rpm's...like a standard would. A very odd sensation....kind of like a go-kart.
The car will sit at a light in 1st and not roll like a regular auto would.
2. Under low throttle the tranny shifts extremely quickly....around 1500 rpm's for each shift. By 30 mph it was in 6th gear.
3. There was a very mechanical and direct feel in the car....mostly from sound alone. You can hear the driveline very distinctly and all the little clicks and whirrs. It gave me a very raw racecar sensation. Under power, the manual paddle shift was fast and crisp.
4. Aside from the driveline the car was very comfortable and quiet. Seats were some of the best I have sat in.
5. Power delivery is just plain stupid. It is a very elastic slingshot feel that I would compare to 90-92 300zx TT's I have owned.....but 3x more pull and more revs at the top. It's not a big blast like a single turbo Supra but just pulls hard from bottom to top. It is deceptively quick.
6. I thought I would feel the weight a little more but the car hides it well. The steering feel is quick but slightly heavy to allow easy driving.
7. Suspension is firm but not harsh. It hugs the dips in the road and does not float. It feels planted to the road all the time.
Overall impression of the car was a positive one. This would be a car I could have fun with on a daily basis and enjoy as a daily driver at the same time. Props to Nissan. Now they just have to address the cost........

After driving the car, I can honestly say that driving with VDC off or doing drag launches is not going to do much for performance. Maybe a couple tenths at best. It was only a few degrees above freezing when I did the test drive and the car had NO trouble hooking up off the line under full throttle.
If a stock HP engine is killing it's stock transmision after a few hard launches it sucks. I shouldn't have to leave a power limiting chip active to keep from fraging the trans....they may as well have cut 50 hp off the engine if the trans can't take it. It isn't like this is a 1000 HP Supra they are giving you, and if they were......a 20,000 dollar transmision should be able to suport that Supra anyway.
Does anyone not think you could build a bulletproof trans for a lot less than 20k?
