^^Unlikely the GT-R will be killed, more likely a major model revision.

Default The...

car and the car alone is great. Everything around it, the price, availability, premium adjustments, servicing, dealer understanding is equally terrible.

I don't know...for me, it didn't live up to what it was suppose to be in all those other aspects. I just try to appreciate it in its purest form, as a driving machine.

I was looking to get a supra a while back and I saw the KGB was like 17k. Sweet! I went on auto trader and ppl were asking 25-30k+ for a stock one. (turbo, 6mt) This was in 02 I believe. Clean 240's sell for over KBb as do really clean crx's.

Just gotta hope the gtr will stay in production for many more years to come!

Right now a good deal on a 09 GTR is like 55K-60K?am i right?

So my question....in say 2014-15 what will a 09 GTR with decent mileage sell for realistically?

Am i dreaming if i think 30K?..this would be my daily..for work, gym etc..just like how my Z is now.

Let me know your thoughts if you think Im out to lunch.
Honestly, at the end of the day, it's a Nissan and depreciation will hit it as such. I will paint you an example: take a look at the BMW M6. Only 12,000 were made, half of which were convertibles. My brother has a 2006, was one of the first to get it in the US. Price tag on a new M6 was $103-110K. Today, 4 1/2 years later, his car with 36,000 miles is worth $40-$45. And that's a BMW. That's nearly 60% depreciation. What makes you think it won't be worse for a Nissan?

I've seen GTRs in the high $50s range already, but most are in the $60s and some low-mileage in the $70s. In 5 years time, they will no doubt be had for mid to high 30s. They are limited in availability, but not quite as much as a Ferrari. And either way, rarity doesn't keep the value of the car higher in this case. A Porsche 911 Turbo, or Bentley CGT, or Benz CL-class are a dime a dozen, but hold their value superbly well despite being on every corner.

Go look at inflation and the false market recovery. In three years a GTR will be going for 12 cartons of smokes and a fifth of Jack....

^^^Got my copy of Motortrend in the mail recently. Their long term GT-R has a residual in the high $40k's(?......can't recall, it's at home and I'm at work). Anywhoo the value was pretty shocking.

In your dreams, this is a Unicorn car - it was never meant for general public consumption. So I'm going to break it to you softly - the parts on the GT-R are designed to recoup the expense of making the car. Nissan takes a loss on each one. When I was at the dealer, I saw the price list for many of the components and I asked the service manager about it. The brake jobs ARE $7500 and owners are paying it. Transmissions and mechnicals are insane.

Examples: if you go on CourtesyParts.com and look up the GT-R seats, the components for just the trim pieces are $290 each. The seat assembly together is over $9000. The stripped down turbochargers (with no surrounding parts) are $1824 each. Front brake pad kit (just the pads) is $670. Each caliper assembly is $1033. The transaxle assembly with transfer case is $17,192. The final drive assembly (also needed) is $1472.

Scenario 1:
Suppose you need new brake pads and rotors. You are looking at 2x$670 = $1340 in pads. Then a $1200 per rotor. Add labor, and you are easily into the $5000-$6000 range. When you say there is "no documentation", there IS documentation, you just need to go look up the pricing in the parts guides.

Scenario 2:
Your transmission begins to fail. You notice grinding under heavy acceleration and there is a slipping. Turns out you need a new transaxle, propeller shaft, and your bellhousing is leaking. You are going to pay over $22,500 for those parts, not including labor.

The numbers are real, you can check them yourself. Nissan is the only place you can buy most of these parts. The Z06 is built on Chev parts and will cost you a fraction of these numbers.

This is just how it is - there is no avoiding some of the parts that the car requires. In fact, it would not take much of an accident for an insurance company to total the car because the parts will easily exceed the $40,000 for buying a used one. Generally speaking, the only person who can afford to own one is a person who can afford the new sticker price without flinching.

Ok, and one more note.. you can cheap out on 3rd party parts, but they are still expensive. All four rotors is still going to cost $2600 in parts, and $500 in brake pads. That's $3100 without labor..

Just wanted to chime in on this response, the trans side of things is going to happen to just about every GTR, no two ways about it unfortunately. But if the owners of the GTR's are intelligent they will come to certified GR6 trans rebuilders where we can upgrade the transmission to be bullet proof and repair whats broken, in most cases for less than just the cost of the OEM transmission itself. Parts AND labor.

Now if they go off and ignore it until they shred the gearsets, then the cost is going to rise a good bit, but it's still a push to get above the cost of just the transmission from nissan directly.

That being said, as someone who has been trained on the GR6 transmission and is certified to rebuild it, i will say beyond the shadow of a doubt that will not be a IF cost, it will be a WHEN cost for all GTR owners... and the GR6 is not something an owner will ever be able to service themselves unless they have north of 20k of tooling in their garage. It's a mega pain to work on, but it's also a mega impressive gearbox when it works too!

If I am looking forward to buying a car in 2013, I certainly am not going to worry about it now. I will look at a used GT-R, and the new 390Z hybrid. Then decide which best suits my needs.

So it costs around the same as parts for a 911 turbo of just about any vintage???

Seems cheap then.

Don't get yourself worked up. If maelstrom is willing to buy all his parts from a dealer and pay all that markup, then so be it.
