New member gas mileage question
Hi All,
I just joined the forum last night. I am beginning my research into a new car to replace my '97 Miata. I have probably narrowed the search to the 350Z convertible or the S2000. I am leaning toward the 350Z because I am a conservative driver & can't see myself getting the full potential from a 7K+ RPM VTEC motor and all that stuff... but I'm still reading.
That being said, I was wondering what kind of gas mileage people are getting on a day to day basis with their 350Z. I did a forum search & couldn't find much information.
I know mileage depends on driving style & how heavy one's foot is, but please give me a range that you get for daily driving with a mix of street & freeway miles. Like I said I am coming from a Miata (which I dearly love) and I usually get 27-30 around town with a mix of driving.
Thanks in advance & I look forward to reading more in this forum.

Sorry to say but if you are looking for the mileage that you got from your Miata, don't consider the 350Z.
I own a 2004 Z roadster and drive it VERY gently. I have driven it 10,000 miles always running 91 octane and have the following averages:
City Only: 17.5 - 18.0
City/Highway: 18.5 - 20.0
Highway Only: 20.5 - 23.0
I know that I'll get flamed by a bunch of Z owners that will tell you that I'm full of crap because they get 25 - 30 miles per gallon but I have recorded each and every fill up and my averages are absolutely accurate. And let me say again, I drive my Z very gently. I will say that I totally love the car and would not hesitate buying another one. The point is though, if your main issue is mileage, don't get the Z.

I've had the car over 2 years now. Regularly get about 20/21 in the city, and will hit 27/28 on the highway. I often drive down to Portland, and as long as I don't go over 80 or so, 27/28 is what happens. Too far over that, and it drops quick though!
91 octane pump gas.

Thanks to all who have posted a reply. I appreciate your candor.
Last night I did a quick calc based on my current driving habits & $2.00 gas for regular unleaded. Assuming 20 MPG in the Z & premium gas I would spend about $500 per year extra to drive the Z. That's acceptable.
Thanks again.
