Default Is your ZR 6spd or auto?

I was curious why people are getting the auto rather than the 6spd?

I bought the car for my wife. While she can certainly handle a manual transmission, it's much easier for her to use the AT especially in traffic. I should also probably mention she's 72 years old and not given to aggressive driving. But she appreciates the Z and drives it with elan and panache.

One of our other cars is a 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra 10th anniversary edition. One manual is more than enough in our stable. I also find that the Z's 5AT is a sweet gearbox, although purists will scoff.

6 speed. An auto would be good ok but I would get bored of it quickly like my last car. I wish they put paddle shifters.

Ours is an auto. I like it. Best shifting auto I've ever had, although it would be nice if it shifted harder when "the pedal is to the metal".

I drive my Z to work every day...gotta have the auto. For what it's worth, it does have the "tiptronic" thingamajiggy that's fun to play with sometimes.

I decided to go with teh auto due to the number of hills in Atlanta. I'm not racing anymore and it's got enough pep to get up and go when I need it to.

6MT here.. same with my G35 sedan... Im a control freak

You'll probably find that 80% of roadster sold are Auto's.... Being that older people buy this car and prefer the auto... I bet the guys here that bought 6MT are all under 35

6MT and under 35 (30)

My other car is an auto and when driving in DC traffic the MT can be a real pain. My wife and I would both get bored with an auto.

Over 50 and all my toys are MT. It's the only way to enjoy the ride. I am a very aggressive driver and enjoy what you can do with a MT. But, yes it is a pain in the butt in Manhattan and Philly traffic. But, lots of fun on the twisting roads and track.

Auto.

Over 50, partially paralyzed left leg from combat wounds, fully functional right leg and accelerator foot.

The Z rocks for everybody.

I've never driven a stick, so this is an honest question...not flame bait...

What does the manual transmission give you that the auto-stick doesn't?

I would imagine the performance is the same, or better, with the auto-stick since you can shift when you want and it's always smooth. The only thing I can figure is that the MT is nastalgic or that you can "feel" the engine better or something. What is it?

I love to drive MT but Jersey traffic can be crazy. If I decide to drive to work which is an hour commute, the stop and go traffic would drive me crazy with the MT. Plus as soon as I test drove this car I fell in instant love....automatic and all!
