Default Traded in the 350Z for a 2006 M3 Coupe!

As many of you know I had my 350ZR for sale for a few months and finally decided that what I wanted was a new M3. I got $31,000 trade in for it. I guess I am lucky being the fact that I work for the US Government on an airbase in Germany. Yesterday, August 9th 2005 I ordered a 2006 BMW M3 and got $4800 off MSRP. This is unheard of back in the states. Not to mention I don't have to pay taxes or gas guzzler since I am considered a diplomat. I'm not military but I work as a govt contractor so I get all the benefits. Only trade off is that I have to own the car for 6 months before I can sell it. Of course that's not going to happen as this has been my dream car for quite some time.

$47,995 -- 2006 Model M3 Coupe (Brand new)
+$1800 -- 19in Double Spoke Wheels
+$995 -- Power Front Seats
+$700 -- Xenon headlights
+$675 -- Harmon Kardon Audio
+$500 -- Heated front seats
+$475 -- Silver Gray
+$275 -- Local Delivery
-$4800 -- 10% off MSRP
-$480 -- 1% off Repeat Customer Apprec
+$0 -- No sales tax
NC -- Titan Shadow Trim
NC -- Black Nappa Leather
NC -- 6 spd Manual
NC -- Standard European 24 month warranty
=================================
$47,787.00

Despite what you may think but traveling at 130+ mph in a convertible is not quite as comfortable as you may think. Yes, I could put the top up but then that defeats the purpose of having a convertible on a nice sunny day. Yes, I could slow down but that is actually more of a hassle because on the autobahn the right lane is used for slower traffic that generally drives at <= 80 mph while the left lane moves at > 100 mph. The wind noise is pretty substantial at 110+ and at 130+ i feel like the top of my head is being smacked by a rolled up newspaper. But I digress, the 350ZR is an awesome machine and perfect in many ways just not great for the autobahn in my humble opinion. If I had a coupe I don't think I would even be considering the M3.

Anyways this is probably my last post (not that I posted much) and I wish you all the best of luck. Cheers mates!

Not my M3 but it will look identical.

Do you have to pay any taxes if/when you bring it to the states and register it? Are 350Zs common over there?
Congrats on the purchase.

as long as i own it here for 6 months before i leave germany than i will pay no taxes. i am actually scheduled to be here for 2 years so im not really worried. on a side note i saw my 350z on the showroom floor at their used car dealership... i miss it already.... it was a great car and i can only hope that i made a "wise" decision. The 350z was extremely uber rare - only saw 1/2 dozen of them in germany. Probably has to do with the fact that they are nearly 45% more expensive here!!

So much for my last post eh? Guess I will miss you 350Z guys. To answer your questions... the company i work for is obligated to move my personal goods back to america when ever i decide (after 2 year contract) to go back to the states. so the price to ship this car would be free.

really the deal i got is too good to be true but it is... only because they allow us contractors (the smart guys ) to have the same "rights" per say as the regular substantially lower paid military folk is a blessing.

thanks for the warm comments netko

Good luck with it, i recently got to drive an 05 smg m3. All i can say is wow, the car is just amazing in ways the z could never be " i own a 2004 liquid aluminum touring". I was also shocked how well the 6 spd semi auto trans worked.

nice....and yes "$4800 off MSRP" is unheard of....getting MSRP on M3's is the norm.

Do they use the older body style for the M3? I ask because they changed the 3 Series. I loved the old look I hate the new one. This one looks to me like the previous body style.

Women do not appreciate M3s... Only guys do, they don't look like sports cars. Females just think they are just any other BMW. I know, I drive an M3 now.

Congrats on the M. I also have the best of both worlds. The Mrs. pushes the Z and I got the M3. Two sports cars with completely different personalities. Love them both! I would not get any Audi over the M3 ever.
