Default Upgrading from OEM Bose system

I'm planning on upgrading my OEM bose system on my 350 roadster and I was wondering if anyone has done any upgrades? I'm looking to replace the subwoofer/speakers/head unit and adding a small amp in the trunk.

Let me know if any one has done something similar...everything i read about stereo upgrades are for coupes.

Tx

Thanks for the reply....did you use the space where the OEM sub is located? How do you like it? Any particular brand? sorry for all the questions but I'm not sure what to buy or how to instruct the installers. I was thinking of going with a Rockford Fosgate 10' dvc speaker or a free air type speaker?? its been a long time since i've put together a real system.

if you do a quick search there is a nice write up of the install. Looks pretty detailed and a bit pricey but probably well worth it.

you have to get the box from Wicked CAS and the right size sub woofers for the box........anything else goes in the OEM location will not work. The box is around $300/each+ sub...........you wil not regret it.........for the front use door pods they are great.......I also got it from Wicked CAS. The sub box and door pods are special design for 350z roadsters. I am in Corona,CA,,,,,if you live near the area iI will show you.

so what is it about the Bose system you don't like it may just be me but i think the Bose sound is awesome..in all my years the cars i purchased i always made sure it came with Bose. I know it sounds better in some cars then others but the Z has pretty good sound output. I guess if you want everyone a block away to hear you coming ..well that's just something else..

At first I thought the Bose was awesome. The sound clarity is still really good. It just doesn't have the bass that I think the sub should have. I read just replacing the head unit can really do wonders for the Bose speakers.

Bose is a very good system on other cars, I got it on my Tahoe and Denali and I love them but in a Z roadster the subwoofer and speakers are too weak when I drive with the top down.

I had a Mazda RX8 with the bose system and it was AWESOME..it was twice as clear and the quality was much better than the ZR. I was excited to have a subwooffer in the car but have been disappointed with the sound. I'm also planning on changing the head unit.

I just found the BOSE was not enough for the ZR.
As the saying goes "no highs - no lows - it's got to be BOSE"

I replaced everything and installed two 10" subs.
Sound is now the way I like it and I can enjoy good sound even with the top down.

IMO, the active crossover that bose uses suuucks. At low volumes, it's alright, but try turning up a rock song, something with full range, and you'll notice the highs will cut out.

That's on top of the computer speaker subwoofer they use.

I put a new system in my ZR and am very glad I did. I wanted to be able to hear and enjoy music with the top down on the freeway at speed and I can say that was accomplished. I love having the sub, it makes a huge difference. Check this thread for my install. I don't miss the glove box where the amp is at all and am very glad it's not in the trunk.
