Default Top replacement via warranty?

I think I remember reading a few weeks ago that someone got their top replaced under warranty due to tears in the top caused by a design flaw, a screw or something coming lose and ripping the top during open/close operation.

I tried searching but can't find the thread... does anyone know what one i'm talking about?

Has anyone had their top replaced under warranty for this issue? I have an aftermarket extended warranty that covers the top until 80,000 miles, i'm at 75K now.

Here is a pic of the tear... question is, is this even caused by the top or something else?

Where did you hear the story about it being replaced under warranty? That'd be really nice if they did, seeing as the tops are notorious for those types of rips and pinholes, but I haven't ever heard of Nissan replacing it under warranty. Although, I did hear rumor of them debating on a recall on it, dunno if that was just a rumor or not

Maybe I misread... I can't find the thread, it wasn't very long ago.

Anyone else maybe remember this? Or am I just dreaming here?

My 04.5 top was replaced under the original factory warranty a few yrs ago. The prob was a tear at the rear corner, which is different from your prob. Did I read this right that you have 3rd party warranty? Why don't you just make a claim before it expires?

Don't wait make the claim asap. Mine was replace under the bumper to bumper warranty which was expiring in a month, not sure extended warranty. My tear was at the the top right corner seem though which is manufacture defect Good luck.

Yes thats the thread, thanks!

I think i'll take it to a dealer (or a couple) and see if they can arrange replacement via my aftermarket/third-party warranty. Sounds like mine may not be a defect, dunno... Wish me luck.

Well it seems my warranty will not cover the soft top, only the motors... So it looks like i'll be replacing the top myself in the next year or so. Damn...

Ouch, sorry to hear that But at least when your fifth bow motor starts having problems like they do, it'll be covered

don't feel bad I have the Nissan gold extended warranty and it does not cover the top fabric just the electric and frame. I just had it replaced under my insurance 3 years ago. I guess I will try a fabric top this time since the OEM replacement and the original both did not last long.

Does anyone here know how to replace the top and if so do they have any pics and recommendations?

brian
