How much am I sacrificing?
I'm not a "street racer" - I've had my DB touring coupe for a year now - but when I come to a light beside someone who wants to go for it, I oblige them - and in most cases, I think the coupe has kicked ***.
I was surprised by a WRX (highly modded, I found out after the fact), and not surprised by a Viper and a 911 turbo - apples and oranges, in those cases...
But I also kicked *** against GT Mustangs and a bunch of Ricer kids in GTI's and Hondas and Eclipses, and even held my own against the F-bodies...
But here's my question, I understand Nissan is gearing the roadster differently (I just ordered a black one), and while it's around 250 lbs heavier, I understand it will "feel" just as quick as the coupe?
Anyone, Buehler?
I already know the new WRX STI and the EVO are quicker off the line than even the coupe (sob), but was wondering if anyone had seen 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times for the roadster?
I love the Z, I just don't want to have to become the guys in the Boxsters that don't want to race me, because they know they can't win.
Any info would be appreciated.

The times I've seen are comparable. There was an article in one of the car mags in the last month or 2. I don't have it available at work with me, but I believe it was car and driver.

Here is the link to the story. Unfortunately, they don't have the performance stats in the online article.

I have that R&T article and the Z Roadster did a 5.7 0 to 60, I believe. Which is comparable to Coupe times I have seen. I think the only hit you will take is that due to aerodynamics and the shorter gearing the Roadster seems to top out at 148 as opposed to the 155 mph for the coupe.
Of course there's the weight hit you take for the Roadster, so cornering maybe not quite as good as the coupe either. However, the Z Roadster is right in there for laptimes against it's main competitors, i.e. Boxster S, Z4, S2000. Quicker on the road circuit will come down to driver skill, not the machine.
Besides, you live in FL. Isn't there some law that you have to drive a convertible there?

Thank all of you for the helpful info - I read somewhere that the coupe guys are more performance oriented, and the roadster crowd was more about style - it's nice to know I'm not sacrificing much by leasing a rag-top. (Now I just have to worry about hiding/removing the V1 everytime I park it - that's an expensive detector - but worth every penny).
Not to get off on a rant here, (Dennis Miller) but the V1 is absolutely awesome - I've never owned an Escort, but it would take a hell of a lot to convince me to even try one, after using the V1 - the only hits I've taken that I didn't see coming were from a State cop using instant - on - and when that happened I was doing 90 in a 70 and didn't get pulled over - he was either feeling lenient or the detector gave me enough of an edge to get the speed down to something the cop found acceptable... and twice I've been lasered - once I knew it was coming, no big deal, I saw their set up when I was headed the other way - the THIRD time though - I had no clue - it was a Statie on foot on an overpass - and I think if the cruisers on the far side of the overpass had not already had people pulled over, he would have nailed me, too.
OK, bigtime rant, sorry. For the guy who said convertables are a pre-requisite in Florida - you're right... and I'm really happy to know I'm not gonna be significantly slowed down by owning one.
(Only had the coupe up to about 135 - the top end isn't going to matter too much.)
Peace out.

Speaking of Boxsters trying to race you .... one of the only times I had my top down in Newport with my new Roadster this summer, a Porsche Boxster pulled up behind me, and followed me all the way to the bridge, he tried to keep up with me, but I blew his doors off - man did that feel good !!

In terms of other Roadsters, my understanding is that a Boxster S isn't a contender, the Z4 with bigger engine is close and the S2000 is a serious challenge (all things being equal it's supposed to be a tad faster but it would come down to the driver in most cases).
