Default MCR Hood - Fitment and Advice Needed

Hi Everyone,

I’ve recently come across an MCR hood, and to my understanding this particular brand and hood should fit nearly on point for 350z’s. I however, am not seeing this to be true and was wondering if anyone has any advice on this, or any tips on getting good fitment for these hoods. Would anyone also have a recollection of what kind of body work it took them/the installing shop, to get this hood to fit well? I’m curious if it really needs as much body work as it seems.

Thanks for the help.

The MCR will bolt right up. It's highly unlikely it's an authentic piece with fitment issues. Where did you get it? Are you sure it isn't a knockoff such as Fly1? Post photos of the underside and the latch area if you have them. This is a pic of my MCR after delivery. Usually the latch area and overall construction is a dead giveaway.

yup 100% sure mines authentic which is why I was so confused on how the fitment was so bad. Same box, same tape, same latch, got my little envelope with the zip tie and instructions in Japanese, etc. I went as far as removing the latch mechanism from the car, loosening the bolts that attach to the rear hood brackets, and trying to manually maneuver the hood into position with nothing to resist against it and no luck.

That's very odd. Considering they would have used the same mold, it was either damaged in transit or the vehicle itself is damaged and causing a misalignment. Do you have photos of where/how it's not fitting well?

Edit: Did you buy this hood new? From who? You mentioned you "came across an MCR hood" which made me think you maybe got swindled on a knockoff.

No pics as of now, but the problem is mainly where the hood meets the front bumper on the radiator support, i can get the gap correct on drivers side but not on passenger side, (think of the gap where the front weatherstrip on the hood sits) the hood overlaps the bumper by a good bit. Don’t forsee the chasis being messed up enough for it to cause the overlap as the OEM parts fit beautifully which raised my concern with my MCR hoods fitment.

May be an issue with my bumper I guess? Its after market N2, another reputable company with good fitment, but it may be off from my
mounting it and it being fiberglass.

Sounds like a bumper problem, but still odd if you're saying the OEM hood fit fine. What brand is the front bumper? I run a Chargespeed Type 1 and the fitment was perfect on both parts.

Geez I hope mine looks that good when im done! Front bumper is ShineAuto, another brand thats said to be good fitment so it may just be due to my mounting - I guess throwing the OEM bumper on to check fitment may be my answer as to the problem here. I wanted to rule out the hood needing any extra work so I appreciate the replies.

Also, did you by chance use the front weather strip and bump stops on the hood?

I don't know too much about the fitment of ShineAuto, so might have to dig into that a bit and test the OEM bumper. I did install the weather stripping and bump stops, but it does take some very careful work and patience to install.
