thats a load of BS lol. Of course it's undercoated. Do you honestly think any manufacturer would sell a regular production car without undercoating? Hell, my neighbor's '03 daytona base model has been driven in the worst conditions over the past year and a half. Had it up on a lift last month with no signs of rust or corrosion.

Exactly. I had an '86 z31 i ran the **** out of. Not a spot of rust on it either. Aftermarket undercoating can actually CAUSE rust. It can plug drain holes and such

My sources told me no. Usually, most cars built in the U.S. have some type of undercoating. The Z is built in Japan. That is why they offer to undercoat it for you at the dealer. That is usually a pretty good indication that it has not been done. Some dealers my do it automatically and wrap the cost into the price of the car.

I have read in many auto and consumer publications that dealer added undercoating ranks right up there with glass etching, scotchguarding, etc as a total waste of money, compounded by the excessive charges for things of this nature. don't have a link but I would never pay for any of that crap.

???
I have also read that the undercoating is a complete scam; however, when I purchased my Z the dealer emphatically said that the undercarriage was not rust protected and recommended an undercoating. I purchased it based on this and would like to think he could make money easier than by lying and potentially losing future business from me.
In any event I am curious how the aluminum suspension components will hold up in Northern climates that use salt on the roads.
Cheers!

Um, aluminum doesn't rust. I guess it might be subject to corrosion but I have never seen it, and don't think you can coat suspension components.

Being a Marine Aquarium Nerd, I can confirm that Saltwater EATS Aluminum... That's not to say that it's going to eat the bottom of your car out but you should look carefully because you won't see RUST on aluminum.
