How is the new beam pattern? I'd like to see any pics you have after you modified the d2r bulbs if you have them.
I had a fuse blow on me once when I was messing around with the parking light wires. It turned out to be in the "hidden" super secret fuse box under the hood. Had to remove some plastic pieces to get to it.
Deus, you are one dogged and tenacious fellow! I love how you track down every small detail in putting this car together. I had a 04 roadster and as you know the early HID headlights were of a very obsolete design and were beyond horrible. When the 06 Z finally came with a Bi-Xenon design it was magnitudes better, but in typical Nissan penny-pinching style it was a pretty cheap minimally constructed thing. Some Honda and Acura models used Stanley or Kioto projector capsule units that are about 100 times better. Since someone had given me an extra set of plain 05 housings, I was on the hunt for a set of quality, complete Bi-Xenon capsules to graft into these housings. Quite some time later a ‘bad boy’ associate came up with a set of capsules that came out of a Mercedes S class with adaptive high beam headlights. He claimed they simply fell off the back of a truck and I should take them for free and not worry about their provenance too much.
These things are beyond awesome with truly excellent optics. The Mercedes has a type of camera that looks far ahead and if you’re driving with the high beams on, and if there isn’t any traffic ahead a little motor lifts the aim of the lights quite a bit higher. When the camera senses an oncoming car, it starts to drop the headlight down bit by bit to the normal high beam position and then clicks the light into the low beam position as the oncoming car approaches. The old retired gentleman who does all the maintenance on my car, mounted these capsules with a normal hi and low beam controlled by the stock Z lever. He also installed a slide control that manually controlled the motors to raise the aim up higher, or back down to the normal high beam position. We also retained the original Halogen high beam units (at the bottom of the housing). These became a second set of driving lights when I clicked on the high beams. My guy not only fussed over the up/down and left/right aim, he also built in a slight bit of rotational adjustment so that he could get the cut-off level, but also provide a little extra ‘kick up light’ on the right side of the road/ditch.
I have a new lead on some Nismo wheels and tires from a forum member. When the deal goes through, Ill let you all know.
I solved the drl, parking light, tail light issue. A fuse is blown. The problem is that there appears to be a short in the right headlight and I will likely need to remove the bumper and right headlight in order to fix the problem. The fuse is in the upper left hand corner of the fuse box behind the battery.

looks great awesome effort. hr hood would finish the front off nicely. did u consider jus getting the nismo addon on a stock bumper rather than the horrid nismo rear? that **** looks funky

Thanks. I know the rear bumper is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of a deal, but I love it. I was only interested in OEM Nissan products. Unfortunately, I had to go with a replica rear wing since I had to re-shape the bottom in order to fit on to my trunk. It would have been very difficult to re-shape an OEM ABS plastic rear wing.
I received a response to my HID questions from a qualified representative from Phillips. Jeff Burdzinski is the product manager for Phillips, and this is his response to my question as to the difference between the D2r and D2s HID bulbs:
All of our Xenon bulbs are generally the same as far as the inner and outer components are concerned, with the exception of the of the paint stripe on the outer vessel and notches in the base as you have indicate in your previous email. Also, the chemical mixture in salt chamber (small globe in the center of the inner vessel) will vary depending on the color temperature and lumen specifications of each bulb type. You may find more technical details outlined in our Automotive Lighting website http://www.usa.philips.com/c-m-li/car-lights. I’m sorry but due to proprietary reasons, I cannot get into further specifics.
As expected, the bulbs are the same but for the painted stripe and the notch, and some chemical differences in order to give the bulbs the different color temperatures.
I am awaiting further answers from the lighting engineer at Sylvania. He gave me a preliminary response, but I had numerous follow up questions.
I have a surprise for you all. Hopefully, the surprise will be here tomorrow. Its in Troutdale Oregon now, en route to my house.
Wow Deus, your skills for fabricating parts, and just as importantly digging out the correct (not from some random girl) information on specifications etc moves you from a gon’ do, to a “git er done” kinda guy. Reading your posts may save me hundreds of dollars in the future.
Today, I removed the front bumper once again and pulled out the passenger side headlight. I could smell the burned wiring. what I did was a little unorthodox but I put in a 15 amp fuse in place of the 10 amp fuse and turned the headlights on briefly so I could see where the short circuit was and when I pulled the headlight out and took it apart it was very evident where the short circuit was. it looked like there was some extra wiring in the headlight so I cut it out and taped the rest of the wiring up and plug the headlight in and turned the headlights on. I noticed all the lights were working and there was no burning smell. all the lights that were not working where the tail lights, parking lights, side LED lights, and the daytime running lights.
My surprise is in central California en route.....
Yeah, yeah Deus, keep a bozo in suspense with this "surprise".... fehhhh.... laff.....
But hey, just came back to see how you were doing. Wow, man, lots of progress. The car's lookin' good!! Good luck on scoring some Nizwhills.... By the by, I've seen a bunch of SINGLE Nismo wheels and have 'em bookmarked on EBay. (Except right now, I have two many wheels and tires in the garage.... 2 spare mounted sets and a set of AD08R gumballs going on the Niz)
Have you considered buying the wheels one by one as they become available? I think currently there are 2 rears and 4-5 single fronts up for sale. Some are ridiculously priced $500+ but there are some closer to the $300-350 range and they appear to be clean.
Then there's http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-Nissan-350Z-18x9-19x10-30-Rays-V3-Wheels-Nismo-NO-TIRES-W-SALE-3070-/191578673847?hash=item2c9afa92b7&vxp=mtr..... might be the same ones you were going to buy? This particular ad clearly states "NO TIRES" but may been in response to your "near purchase".
So hey, if you're still going to be in Nor Cal late this month, hit me up through PM...
That first pic made me laugh so hard lol. I'm the same way though; when I have a part that is coming every time I hear a truck I run to the front door . Glad you got your wheels!
I have about 5 grand worth of chit in the process of shipping to me. Eventually you get good at not paying too much attention to ship dates so you can get surprised every time a diesel pulls up and knocks on your door.
Yessir..I got Niz wheels! I too get jazzed up when I am waiting for a delivery. What makes it difficult is that I live near the post office so every five minutes a delivery truck drives by. Anyhow I got my wheels from Nizmo_0385. Thanks bro!! The wheels were clean and the tires look great. Took only 36 hrs from doorstep to doorstep. When I got the wheels I filled in some curb rash and minor gouges. Then I sanded the filler. I called my auto paint store and they said if I leave a wheel, they will color match the wheel paint. It will be $20 plus the paint. Ill need clear too. Then ill have Nismo decals made.
In the last pic, you can see some of the watered down filler on the tires. They are ready for primer after a good wipe down. Keep in mind, I plan to spot paint.
I actually trimmed it right after I took the pic. We are having a severe drought here in California so we can't really water our lawns very much. Besides, I've been so busy working on the Z that I have not had time to do much yard work. Gotta keep you guys happy lol
Was in Boston a week ago and out of habit, shut the water off while brushin' my teeth. Then I thought, "Aww, hell, these guys got LOTS of water, whut'm doing?" Even got chastised by the bartender at Cheers after I said, "Sure is hot outside...." "Uhhhh, sir, you might want to be careful who you say that to around here after the winter we just had..."
But yeah, drought sucks so I can vouch for Deus. I've whined about it before but owning a black car in a town that can FINE you big bucks for washing your car ain't fun. And I can't take it to the nearby wash cuz it's not a hand wash....
Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa.... And yeah, I know, "Oh boo hoo Mic... with your first world problems."
