Default Z going nuts and why (I think)

Ok. I have a 2006 with 112k on the clock. I was driving around town the other day when I notice my air bag warning light comes on. That's odd I think and file it away
under things to fix. Next day my TPMS light suddenly wakes up along with the TPMS malfunction indicator. At this point my dash is starting to look like a Christmas
tree on meth. Next to go are are all the lights for the controls on the steering wheel. This is most egregious I think and start to get annoyed. There is more to come.
The radio and CD player then both come on and fight it out for dominance, 5 seconds of radio, 5 seconds of CD, so turning the volume to zero is my only option. Then
the final insult comes as I get in to the car after work one night and turn on the headlights, this little maneuver apparently now instructs the horn to also come on. Yanking
out the fuse for the horn was the only way I could save what sanity I had left.
After doing a little research it turns out that the culprit for some if not most of my predicaments is a little bastard called a clock spring that is located inside the steering wheel.
At least I hope so because if that's not the case then I'm driving my Z off the nearest cliff with the help of a bottle of whiskey.

Edit: missed part of your post.

The symptoms you described do sound like the CS, with the exception of the TPMS since I dont believe they tie together. Do you have cruise control?

My CS went out a few years ago. I had the same problem with the AB light and the horn. I didn't experience the radio issue but that may be because I don't have the controls on my wheel.

The CS is an easy fix Just make sure your wheels are straight and you mark it before you take it off, otherwise you'll end up with more SLIP and TCS lights due to your SAS being off.

Thanks for the info. Yes I believe you are right, TPMS is a different issue and just a coincidence. Also yes I do have cruise control.
Roughly how much was it to get yours fixed?

It's odd you still have CC. Then again, I didn't lose everything all af once so yours may not have failed completely.

I did it myself. It only cost me the cost of the CS and took about an hour and a half because I was really taking my time. You need to disconnect the battery fully (both cables, I don't take chances with airbags lol) and let it sit about 10 minutes Pull the screws holding the airbag in place, lock the steering wheel, mark its alignment, and remove the bolt holding the steering wheel in place. The CS assembly is right behind it. Just unplug the old, plug in the new (be EXTREMELY CAREFUL, DO NOT LET IT SPIN), and reverse steps to put all back together.

I bought mine off of Courtesy. They have them listed for $168.

I don't know what trim level Z you have so I just clicked Enthusiast so you could get an idea. If you have radio functions on your wheel then you'd be best ordering the appropriate spring for your trim.

I found the video I used for install:

You'll need a Torx set if you don't already have them. I can't remember what size. I'd recommend getting the ones that are not completely solid in the end, but instead are open. IIRC, the airbag bolts are security torx and have a peg in the middle that will need to be able to go inside the bit.

As for the TPMS light, it could be simply one of the units is going out. Or a colder day (or night) can drop tire pressures below 28 PSI to trigger the warning. Easy enough to check by taking it to a tire store with a tool to check the wireless TPMS units and also check tire pressures.
