Default My roadster stalled going 70mph

Just a little while ago I was showing off my roadster to a workbuddy on a backroad. I got up to 100mph with no problem. But the moment I started to slow down, my engine just plain turned off. It was about at 70mph when it happened. One minute everything was fine, then it just died. I noticed when it happened cuz I lost my power steering while taking a turn

I'm a little freaked by this. Since I just put in a popcharger, I'm thinking that might be the cause. This is the fastest I've taken it since installing the PC. However, I've ramped up the rpms to above 6K before with no issue.

Could anyone hazzard a guess to what happened? Would being in 5th gear @ 100mph, then hitting the brake and NOT clutching cause this? I realize, of course, about stalling, but the car was still up the 4000rpm range when it happened.

Thanx in advance!

I've never of anything of this sort happen. If I were you, I'd take the popcharger out , put stock airbox in, and go to the dealer. Tel them what happened, and see if they will do a inspection. Ask if they can use their tool (forgot the exact name) which connects to the ECU and can pin-point virtually any problems.

If nothing comes up again, re-install your popcharger being very careful, and remember to disconnect your batter for roughly 10 minutes, then reconnect.

there is kind of a recall for 03 models because of a possibly faulty tranny sensor (i think the vehicle speed) that will cause the car to shut off while driving. cant imagine it happening to your 04 roadster, but its worth asking your dealer.

then again it could be something with your popcharger also.

Nothing to do with the pop-charger would cause you to stall..There was a recall on 03's for a faulty CRANK POSITION SENSOR which caused the exact same symptoms you describe..Supposidly it only affected the first few hundred cars that Nissan will admit to..

Did you by chance shift into neutral or hold down the clutch from a high rev? There is actually something with the Pop Charger and stalling but it happens to only a few people. Here is a link to that thread.

Thank you, Blue350z! VERY interesting. Now that I've read that I do believe that's exactly what happened to me.

I'm going to check the placement of my PC and make sure it's unobstructed. Then I'm going to go ahead and reset my ECU and see what happens.

Thanx again!

Let me know what happens, I checked my install and it seemed to be installed fine. I have yet had a chance to reset my ECU though, would be interested to see if that fixes the problem. I am really not that concerned with this issue because it doesnt affect me when I am driving normal. Glad I could help.

The ECU usually needs to "learn" the new intake, otherwise it might try to pull air in no differently than it did with the stock intake.

Its your popcahrger. I had the same problem, and so have many other people. Once you let off the gas under hard excelleration, your car will be prone to stalling due to blowback from the intake. Remeber the stock air box is pressurized at high speeds, putting the Popcharger on messes this up. If you keep it on long enough howver, this problem will eventually go away.

Put you stock air box back on, or go with the Nismo or Injen intake to alleviate the problem.

The fact is, no one really knows what this problem is. This is a very serious problem that should be brought up to NNA REGARDLESS of it's cause. Although this hasn't happened to me, I would call NNA and file a complaint if it did. Whoever this has happened to should let NNA know for the good of Z owners. What if some of those Z crashes we have seen were the result of this?

considering that it seems to be happening to popcharger owners i don't feel it should be brought to nna's attention at all... it's not their fault and they will wipe their hands clean of it.
