Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about getting myself a Z Roadster. I've priced them out and found the one I want but I have a few questions.

Some people have complained about some Nissan dealers' lack of customer service and general bad attitude, is this a common trait or is it an anomoly?

I noticed a people complaining about tire feathering, what is this exactly and is it something that is still a problem with the Z or has it been corrected?

If you had to choose one weak spot on the Z what would it be? Tires, Transmission, Clutch, etc.

I want this car very badly, but I'm not stepping up for a $40,000 Z only to be plagued with issues and dealers who refuse to be amicable.

I'd like to hear from those people that actually have a Roadster too and see what they think after having bought it and run it around for a while. In your opinions has the cost of the car been worth every penny or is there room for improvement?

Go for a roadster dude, I think it got the best look ever. Handling is better than GTR, just the power is a bit flat and less. My one is simi manuel/auto, But i find that nissan make a mistake, I think is must better with the downshift toward to the front of the zed and upshift to the rear. Sometime i make a mistake when i m in menual mode.

 

I've had 10 new cars/SUV's in the last 3 years, and by far the best one i've owned! The only car I've had in my life that I plan on keeping! GO FOR IT

 

So far I haven't had any issues with the car or the dealer that haven't been easy to fix. Go for it and enjoy it!

 

The 2004 and 2004.5 (prob what you are buying) don't seem to have the tire feathering issue.

Go for it, but don't pay $40k! Try to pay somewhere around $500-1000 over invoice. Goto Edmunds.com to find the invoice price.

Ok, so I'm talking with a dealer and I'm working with the Fleet/Internet Manager. He says he'll get me the best price I can find one anywhere. My question to the fine members of this board is...what is the best price?

It's a black Roadster Touring with Nav and 18" wheels.

I checked on Edumnds.com and they weren't able to give me the invoice prices, just msrp (40,000).

I'm not sure what a good price is for this vehicle, can some of you that purchased them give me an idea?

I've had mine for 6 weeks. I realize that I am at the beginning of what I hope is a long relationship, but 2200 miles so far, and I can say I have been more than pleased. I just came back from a 1 1/2 hour run thru the rolling hills of central Kentucky. The car is simply a blast.

Mine has everything that you are looking at minus the navigation. Mine was $1600 below MSRP.

 

In most of the US you could buy a Z for under MSRP, I understand California is higher??

In San Diego it's a bit below MSRP.

 

in LA/Hollywood area, I ended up $1000 over MSRP. I probably could've ended up a bit less. But I love the car, I dont mind.

 

I live in L.A. and paid $1500 over invoice ($36,800) for Roadster Touring. I really love this car.

 

My Pikes Peak White touring package stickered at $40,390.00. It has the NAV system, 18" wheels, and all the kickplates, floor mates, splash guards, etc. I paid $39,830 for it in Los Angeles.

 

My friend's dad is a sales manager at my local Nissan dealership. Needless to say i get very good deals. The more expensive the vehicle the more mark up there is. A $40K sticker price probably has an invoice price around $36K. There may be differences throughout the country but I am from MA where everything is expensive. I would try to get it around $37K or so. If he says he can't do it tell him you found a dealer that can and his tune will most likely change quickly.

The first car I bought from him was a 99 Maxima SE. $25K sticker price, I paid $19K. I got a Sentra SE for my commuting car. Sticker was just under $18K, I paid $14,100. I went to price a Pathfinder recently. The Platimum Edition sticker was $35K, I was going to get it for $30K. These all include a $100K warranty which was at his cost. ALWAYS negotiate that price too by the way, they are sometimes marked up 100%. I went with a used loaded Pathfinder. Then I sold my Buick Grand National with the intention of getting a 350Z. I was going to get a Touring Coupe. Sticker was $34K and I got a price of $30K. I decided to hold off because I'd rather the Roadster so I am waiting a year to save some more money.

 

The roadsters look great, but I didn't know the MSRP was all the way up to 40?!?!

As far as issues, some roadsters (even 2004.5's) have had the feathering issue. It's just an irregular wear pattern on the tires which eventually can lead to some roar coming from the tires at certain speeds.

As for dealerships, I wouldn't just assume that the dealer who says he'll get you the "best price anywhere" is really going to deliver, but that's common sense. For customer service, it's been hit or miss. My dealer is awesome, but I've heard horror stories about others. Keep in mind you're not bound to any specific dealer by contract so you can find one that you like regardless.

My guess is, if you get that car, you'll love it, and you won't be disappointed at all.

Was your out the door price or before price tax, license, etc. I have a base, but like to get a conv.

Tony, out-the-door was $40K with auto transmissin (I used COSTCO Auto Buying Program) and then I bought extended warranty 5/60 for an extra $1,500, bringing the total to $41.5K. If this is too high, consider the Enthusiast with manual transmission. Nissan does a nice job with the cloth seats and the manual is a hoot to drive!

Well, I just picked up my Black Roadster Enthusiast 6sp. All I can say is wow. I went from an EVO to this and with the EVO I always felt like I needed to drive fast to have fun. This thing I drove home easy and it was just as much fun, I actually didn't even feel the urge to go fast, go figure. Save me on tickets anyways. :-)
