Oil Pressure
'04 Roadster built 6/04, 500 miles. 6mt.
After engine warms up, my idling oil pressure reads below 30 psi. (assuming the first un-marked tic mark on the gauge is 30 psi.)
Running pressure (2000-3500 rpm) is between 60-90 psi.
I'm surprised the pressure is so low on a new engine. I expect it will be about 10 psi less when nicely broken in (1500-2000 mi). Thus it will be only about 20 psi at idle. Does this seem too low???
What's your oil pressure at idle?
Thanx........

When I start up in the morning it can bury at 120 psi. I don't know why but I will find out soon. Around 2000 rpm, it is at 60 psi or above. I don't know what it is at idle, I don't sit still for very long.
Those numbers sound pretty typical of this engine. Remember too that your numbers will be slightly higher for a period after an oil change and will decrease as the oil viscosity breaks down.
Referencing the Service manual for oil pump output at certain rpm's:
ENGINE RPM: APPROXIMATE DISCHARGE PRESS (kPa):
(kg/cm2, psi)
Idle more than 98 (1.0, 14)
2,000 more than 294 (3.0, 43)
6,000 more thab 392 (4.0, 57)
Penderwheels, it seems that your car is well within standards according to the service manual. By the way, if you have the manual you can reference page LU-14. Hope this helps!
