Default Exhaust Mod Question

Have an 04 Auto SB Touring ZR purchased with all available nissan options (18" wheels). Just ordered JWT Popcharger and Greenstuff front brake pads as my first mods (these parts should arrive tomorrow - will install Friday night).

Hear/read that an exhaust mod results in a reasonable performance boost. Looking at Injen and others...

Would like to hear from those that have done an exhaust mod.
Was it worth doing?
Is there a noticeable performance differance? Please describe.
What exhaust mod do you guys reccomend (or to stay stock).
New Exhaust Sound?

Thoughts/Help would be appreciated... Thanks...

i really hope it is worth it. i will be installing my ultimate racing high flow cats, japtrix y-pipe and fujitsubo legalis-r exhaust in 4 1/2 hours

the biggest bottleneck of our exhaust systems are the stock cats and y-pipe, so changing those our SHOULD provide a noticeable difference. as for the mid pipe and exhaust, it seems that the gains are relatively small and it is mostly for sound and looks. just my opinion based on what i have heard.

btw, you are going to love the sound your pop charger makes over 4k rpms. i am excited for you.

Hey thanks for the info reply, appreciate it!
Just came in from a midnight test drive after installing the JWT popcharger. It arrived at my house while I went to best buy today to get an escort S2 $$ radar detector, but the wife sidetracked me when I got home tonight, and just got the chance to change the air intake to JWT. Seems like more exhaust growl, and bit faster when punched, or it could be I just love my car and think it's a big difference! - Either way, happy with result!

Let me know how your new deal turned out when you can please. Sounds like quite a setup you scoped out for your Z.

I put Nismo cat back dual exhausts on and I really love them. Awsome sound and I did feel a slight gain in power. They are a little more costly but the fit is perfect and they do come with the Nissan warranty.

netman_one,

since yours is an exhaust mod question, you may get a better response by posting exhaust section instead of the roadster section.

but, i did get my exhaust on and that thing sounds mean!!! i love it. at first i thought the idle was too soft, but then i heard it again, and i am very happy with it. doesnt sound ricey at all. very deep and powerful sounding throughout the rpm band. however, when cruising on the freeway, it is a bit muted and not irritatingly tiresome to listen to.

there is a slight rasp to it at certain rpms. my friend, who knows a lot about cars and z's, told me that it was the heat shield vibrating. so he is going to help me modify that area.

only minus is that those fujitsubo tips are huge!! in pics they dont look too big, but they are way huger than stock. i gotta get used to that part of it.

there seems to be a lot more power now. acceleration is really improved. with the cats, y-pipe, and exhaust, i am optimistically guessing about 12-15 hp?

Good to hear from someone that has it on - Thanks!
Am considering doing the same too, should have mentioned prior that I was also looking at the Nismo S-tune as well as a choice. Will most likely go with it.

Just installed the Injen SES exhaust last week. After looking at and listening to the Stillen, NISMO & Borla, decided to go with the Injen SES. (Obviously, the appearance & sound is very objective, so I can only speak of my personal preferences).

This is a catback, true dual all polished stainless system. It look great and sounds even better!! Very easy install. It also matches nicely to my Injen RD CAI.

Sounds very much like a V-8. I've gotten a number of compliments on the look & sound, particularly from the service techs at the dealership!

Borla td here. I love it. Just a little louder than stock. Deeper note. Opens up nicely at 4000 rpm. Not too expensive. Butt dyno says it has minimal gains but noticable. I've seen between 7-13 hp gains claimed here and that seems about right.

What are the true duals getting as far as output wise. Hp gain?

Also, pipe routing.... did they have to do anything tricky to fit the pipe the whole way down the car or was there plenty of room?

I'd suggest replacing the entire exhaust!
You'll love the way it opens up!
