i got my 07 base bacause

1. because it was on the showroom and i didnt want to wait another 5 days until i can get my Z

2. well upgrade on models doesn't provide any extra options on the engine so...

3. i can live without leather, cruise control, and any other electornic fancies.

4. well i am too stupid to know what VLSD really is... (noob)

5. it was so much cheaper (dealer gave my Z $1000 below invoice - i think he was crazy at that particular time)

some please educated me on VLSD.

I'm happy with my touring! Personally, I don't want to go through the hassle of adding my own LSD.

When it comes down to used car prices, you can probably find a Touring for the same price as a base.

But if you guys are happy then thats great.

I bought the base because I did not want any of the extras offered in the other packages. I replaced the HU with a Pioneer AVIC-D2 two days after I bought the car so I did not need the Bose.

I also did not want leather seats at all. I wanted manual seats vs power seats and I do not need or want heated seats.

The Z is my third car. If I want to drive a car with more luxury than one can imagine I will drive my Escalade. It has leather, cruise and homelink mirrors. I don't need that crap on my fun car.

I am also realistic and I know that I will never use the Z for any kind of long trip. Therefore I don't need cruise control.

My first car was a 280Z and I wanted a car that embodied everything that was good about the Z. I wanted it to be light, fun and enjoyable. I did not want or need any kind of electronic gizmos or driving aids. I have only driven RWD cars and I know how to handle then in all weather conditions.

Nope....happy with my base.

I knew ahead of time I would switch to aftermarket leather.

I bought a base b/c I knew I'd be changing parts anyways, although I did want the brembos and cruise. I dont care for the TCS/VDC though and the LSD I can do w/o too since I wont be tracking my car much.

pretty much if you are the guy that can add/install what ever the hell you want to your car, the base is makes a great canvas. But if you dont knwo wth you are doing (me), then start adding the things you want to have on your Z then buy the trim that has all that stuff.

Well I went to the dealership and I took a look at a beautiful silver Z with leather interior.Right then and there I was like thats what I want.

Later on I found out that I had just bought me a touring model.Iam happy with my Z.The only thing that gets me fustrated is the dam seat warmers, the buttons are like right in the middle of the console. And now and then I forget all about it,and I rest my arm in the middle console next thing you know my *** is on fire.Really sucks.AHH!!!!!

Another base owner here. I picked up my 03 Base from a private seller a few months ago but it's a 'special' base model. It has custom leather seats and warmers which were installed by the previous owner. They look and ride awesome, btw. My criteria was Z, 6mt, leather. The rest was nice but it was secondary in my mind. I wanted the performance and just a touch of luxury in form of leather. I'm a 'more go, less show' type of guy so I like things that make the car perform better and not add clutter to the car. I shopped around and found my base model which pretty much had everything I wanted. It does not have an LSD and that was a compromise I made when I got the car. I was also selling my WRX at the time by myself and the goal was to walk away from the entire buy/sell deal with just about the same money gained/spent. Other things like extended 100K Gold warranty on the car and brand new tires on it sealed the deal. I paid $17.5K for the car and am very happy with it. Cruise control is not something I care for. I used it once ever and don't like the idea of a machine doing the work so I just don't need it. VLSD is nice but at the price range I was at, and the milage I was looking for, the viscous fluid ends up loosing a lot of its properties so most VLSDs turn into open diffs after 60K miles so knowing that it did not bother me not to have one since if I did buy one, it'd turn into an open diff couple years after the purchase anyways If the open diff starts bothering me so much, I'll swap it out myself for a superior aftermarket unit.

I love my base but it's a weird base because it has the leather. That makes me not regret it. Brembos would be nice but for a strictly street car that my Z is, the regular stock brakes are more than enough. Once I switch to SS lines and change the fluid, they will perform even better for >$200 so no worries there. Also, I like 17" wheels. They make you faster and help you stop faster as well. My light 17" SSRs take that to the whole new level Yes, I am that weird guy with aftermarket 17" wheels on a Z

Base is fine with me. The factory bose sucks anyway, and I replaced my head unit with an AVIC-D3 with Navi which is probably better than the OE one anyway. I plan on picking up those metal pedals, just because they match the other metal in the car, I could care less about TCS, Stability control, Ive been driving more dangerous cars without them for long enough to not need them, the cruise would be nice but its not that big of a deal and I'll eventually toss in a LSD thats better than the stock one anyway, but I've always liked to mod stuff just a bit, so no real regrets about the base; theres nothing I can't do to make it better than a touring or whatever else if I feel the need to.

that maybe true but if they're happy with it without one what difference does it make.

i agree but then why do so many base owners talk **** about the stock vlsd and talk smack about how they are going to get an aftermarket one and never end up doing so? why? because of the inferiority complex. if they really were happy with what they purchased then they wouldnt need to justify their purchases like that. base or no base, the car is fantastic. in the end i hope everyone loves their car as much as i dol.

Some of us do actually buy the base on purpose.

I guess I'm the 1% LOL and I have yet to hear anyone say "...oh its a base model" about my car.

I also have a Base with the following:

- Leather seats
- Homelink mirror, aluminum pedals, aluminum brush guard
- OEM HID

No VLSD. Which is what I aimed for. I do mostly street driving, and it does rain in California here--LSD isn't that safe in the rain, so I stayed away from it.

No need for traction control, my foot does the controlling. No need for cruise control either as I never used mine on my two previous cars. Did my NorCal-SoCal cruise with my right foot on the gas all the time, no problem.

And as for the Brembo brakes? Yeah, that'd be the only regret. But it's OK, as I've recently upgraded to Wilwod BBK

Well after looking at the different models, i realized that the 06 base was the to go. First off all 06 Z's have bi-xenon hid, the base model was the lightest off all, and finally the price of my 06base model was irresistible. I use to have a 91 2+2 z32 with leather, cruise control and vlsd and the only thing i really miss is the LSD, steep driveways suck without lsd.

I got the base model as I heard that the Bose system in the upgraded additions didnt sound like a Bose. I replaced the systems and got my seats reappolistered in leather with a huge Z symbal and still came out way ahead
900$ for the leather and 1500$ for a kick butt system. If you are planning on upgrading then just start with the base.

Edit: I updated the chart and added the Roadster.

I dont understand this chart at all, my roadster kicks ***.

Its also a Touring edition, so it has the Navi, heated leather seats, LSD, and all the goodies.

Whoever made it wasn't too skilled in data presentation obviously. A pie chart would have made it much easier to understand.

If I were to buy new the enthusiast would be a no-brainer for me. However, I was not interested in financing which meant I had a hard spending number to deal with which forced me to look for a used one. Once I started looking at the used market it became more about the condition and the history of the car and less about the features. When I found a very low miles one "mature" owner '06 in the color I wanted, it happened to be a base model....so that's what I got. It wasn't "well it's lighter" or "I'm just going to upgrade....." It was the nicest example of a 'Z' that fit in my budget, period.

And so far the only thing I'd like to add is the LSD. BOSE is crap and only makes it harder to replace. Navigation might be nice though, but I wouldn't say I miss it. TCS...meh, never had it so I don't miss it. I live in the NW and drive in the rain all the time and have had zero issues. Homelink would be nice but not a deal breaker......so yeah....I guess just the LSD.

Don't get me wrong though, if I'd found an enthusiast in my budget in the same shape I would have jumped on it no doubt.
