ever since i got my car 7 monthes ago ive been hearing strange noises coming from my tranny. high pitched whining noises when revved high, squealing noises the first half hour i drive and just all different strange noises. i decided to take it to nissan and boy to my surprise were they nice. I had a technician drive the car while i sat in the passenger and told him everything to do to mimic those sounds. well to make a long story short got a phone call today saying my new tranny is on thw way!! wow im sooo happy

Do you experience any problems other than the sound?

My 08 makes a loud whining sound as the RPMs climb. My cousin's 08 makes the same sounds but just not as loud. So I'm gonna say the whining is normal. Either way, it's not so annoying that I'd have the tranny replaced. Would having the tranny replaced show up on the carfax report?

Grinding when shifting (it usually happens when downshifting quickly) usually indicates a problem with the synchromesh mechanism. The typical fix for this is a transmission replacement. People also report repairing this by replacing synchromesh components, but I’m not sure this is the best way to fix the problem.
If I remember correctly there was a problem with some 2003 and 2004 Z’s (prior to 2004.5?), and Nissan fixed this by replacing the transmission. Nissan replaced my 2003 transmission under warranty. My replacement transmission definitely has a whine-noise that was not present in my original transmission. I don’t mind the noise, and hardly notice it anymore. The replacement transmission works great; it’s not “notchy” (in fact it’s “silky”) and does not “grind.”
I haven’t heard many complaints from 2006 owners describing this problem.

that would describe almost all of them at times...well mine doesnt grind 3rd but definitely notchy until fully warm (especially 2nd). Curious to see how the new one compares.

If I read the word "tranny" one more time I'll upchuck.
How about 6mt or 5at? Those terms actually convey useful information, and they take even less time to type.

The OP's just saying he's getting a new transmission.. He's not asking anyone for any help..

That's great-I know the feeling of getting a car back from a repair + having it feel like new-takes a load off knowing that a whole part is new, and won't need replacing untill you have enough $ for the next z! Just to add-I got a 2004 MT-2nd gear sucks! a warm car helps a lot-I did drive the car like it was my last day alive for the 1st year I had it though-got to start researching after maket "transmissions"- that was 4 u winchman!
