Default IPOD Dock for 350Z?

Hey all,

I'm looking at getting an IPOD for Christmas this year and was interested in where to locate it in the car. I know Belkin makes a cup holder mount -- http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...ore=T7420LL/A. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used this in their Z. I removed the dual cup holders from the console, and was just wondering the practicality of using this in the Z's pop-out dash cup holder. If not, where else could I posibily put it?

I have the BOSE upgraded system so I think I'll go with an FM modulator to play the music in my car. Which brand FM modulator do you all recommend for the IPOD in the Z?

Thanks!

Oh yeah, Sony also makes a casette that you can use to play the IPOD thru your tape deck. Is the sound quality with that better than using an FM modulator? Or even significantly noticeable? Just curious since the BOSE HU has a tape deck. Thanks!

I just installed the Alpine deck and unit that "controls" the iPod in my 4Runner for the winter. This way, I just put the iPod in the glove compartment, and the radio controls the iPod, and it automatically charges!

This thing rocks! The only problem is that scrolling through artists, songs, playlists, etc is a little tedious. But definitely the best way to use the iPod!

Check out Alpine's website...

Yeah, I've seen that in Crutchfield's catalog, but I have factory navigation and the BOSE upgraded HU so I don't want to swap those out and lose functionality of my factory speakers and navigation.

do you mean an FM Transmitter, or an FM modulator. I would think the modulator is better than the tape deck, and you could hide the wire. Fm Transmitters suck so forget those. I used to use the belkin cup holder but now have the alpine ipod combo so i dont use it anymore, but it works really well in that position and is easy to control.

Check my install out...

I used aux in for better sound and a generic holder for the ipod. I have the names and links to more info on both items in that post.

I did mean FM modulator, sorry for the confusion. You think that would be better than the tape deck?

Actually... now that I look on the IPOD accessories page... they all say FM Transmitter (http://www.apple.com/ipod/accessories.html). So wait, what's a modulator? A modulator is better? Do they make those for an IPOD? And even still, a modulator is better than using the tape deck?

EDIT: And I did read the post about the Aux install... I just don't know if I'd have any problems doing that since I have factory navigation as well which I want to keep intact.

The aux in adapter plugs into the back of the radio where the factory satellite radio would plug in. If your head unit is compatible with the OEM satellite radio tuner, then the aux in adapter will work.

An aux in line will provide much beter sound quality than an FM transmitter or a cassette adapter. A cassette adapter would be the second choice in terms of quality, with the FM modulator coming in third.

How would I be able to identify if I have a factory satalite input? And how much is this adapter that plugs in to give you a line input? Do you basically just have to slide out the HU and connect it in the back? What does it give you at that point? An RCA white/red for the IPOD?

EDIT: Ok, I just read on the website what it does. But I have a 2003 Touring, it says something about compatable with 2004 Z's? Once again, my question still stands, how do I determine if my 2003 upgraded BOSE headunit is satalite ready?

EDIT #2: I just checked and my HU does not have any button indicating SAT or SATALITE and my "radio" button is labeled: "FM/AM."

Mines custom wired and sits inside the Nav Compartment (sideways) ... not the prettiest setup but it works for me:d

I don't know for sure, but I'm willing the bet your bose is satellite ready. I have a G35C with Sat, and the "sat" button is not on the head unit, but on my console. also, you can get an idea from this link below, although it's for a G35.

Yeah, no, I don't have anything that says SAT, that's strange... so even though I have the upgraded BOSE sound system, there's two versions of that HU with the CD changer... one with SAT and one without?
