id like to replace the crap headunit, but since i know nothing about electronics, i thought maybe you guys could give me some advice. im looking for a single din head unit that plays mp3's.id like it to have the color changing feature so i can change the background color to orange. I would prefer a black unit and silver buttons so it matches the car. something very simple looking, and something not outrageously priced.

is there anything out there that you guys have seen that matches this?? thanks in advance

Stu, did you use the trim plate that comes with that head unit..did you use an AI install kit?

 

stu - hows the quality of that clarion head unit? im really interested in it, it looks amazing. also which dash kit would be the best to use with it? so far ive found the metra kit and the AI kit, but cant really find pictures of either. thanks

 

I used the AI kit for the Kenwood. It is super looking and in my opinion would compiment any head unit you choose. The color and grain of the plastic is indistinguishable from stock.

 

I have that Clarion unit above and its awesome! Also, make sure to use the AI unit, it fits much better than the metra kit. I'll go take a picture now, standby.

 

here it is, with the lights on and matching the dash illumination. I use 'warm amber' at night, and a user defined orange in the daytime.

 

I like the alpine 9835 does everything and more

I got the headunit on ebay, refurbished for 150 ( I had last years clarion 835 that had a chrome face, so I wasn't concerned if it didn't work) and it sounds great. I got the AI kit from buy.com for about $11, I think.

 

I've bought speakers through these guys and their service has been good........

I guess I missed out. Good choice. IMO, it's better than the Alpine sound quality wise. The Alpine has more features.
