Default INSTALL: Lcd, slim playstation, xovision television tuner

hey guys,

First time post, but have been reading on the forum here and there. First want to say good group of users here and pretty informed as well. Just wanted to post pics of this install and introduce ourselves. We are a small shop in Tampa Florida (historic Ybor city) and do everything aftermarket as well as regular maint. and repairs to all makes and models. We have been featured on Nissan Performance Magazine a couple of times for supplying parts to their project Turbo B12 and for the Tsuru Headlight conversion. We have access to all japanese parts and accessories, no matter how small or unusual. We can also have any manuals or instruction translated from Japanese to English if you need. Anyway here is the info on the car below

Customer wanted a complete stealth install showing no signs of modifications. Her kids wanted a playstation in the car and she wanted a tv tuner to watch soap operas on her lunch break. Below is the results

Products:

lcd module with touch screen and vga support
Playstation 2 new "SLIM" version
Playstation 2 remote control
XO Vision tv tuner
4ch diversity antenna
XO vision FM modulator
custom made "Garage Two Three Ver. 1" IR extender for playstation 2 remote control operation from front of car
Sylvania RF wireless controllers 915Mhz 8 channel operation
AC to DC inverter

Seperate wire was ran off of the fusebox to power the TV tuner, ir extender, inverter, and cooling fan. Switch for FM modulator is located in center console by card holder.

Monitor was a bit tricky for the following reasons. One is that it has no remote control what so ever. upon initial powerup it needs to be setup to look for input. After that it will stay on stand by until it recieves a video feed. This brought the issue of battery being disconnected and the monitor buttons needing to be accessed EASILY. Therefore we mounted the board under the finisher panel.

What was supposed to be the easiest part became the hardest, Slim playstation 2. My suggestion to anyone is just install the other one whenever possible. The number one reason is the motorized tray versus the manual pop up cd lid. We made a custom rail and also mounted a cooling fan behind it to keep it cool. The tray allows the playstation to be pulled forward so that a dvd can be easily loaded by the driver even with the passenger seat in full recline. The rail is also stiff enough were it won't slide back by itself.

The Tv tuner is pretty straight forward install using the nice little recessed pocket. The two black boxes on either side are the remote recievers. nothing to crazy here.

The gray box in the power inverter picture contains our custom IR extender. The extender is the beta version design we made in house. The IR reciever is mounted just below the monitor with an LED blinking to confirm signal pickup. The transmitter is mounted to the front of the playstation. It runs off of 12 VDC and works nicely ( newer version will be done soon)

To continue with the stealth aspect the antennas are hidden under the paneling in the hatch.

FYI the controllers are pretty much lag free ( few minutes of playing GT3 confirmed it )

Please post all comments good and bad. This was our first A/V system install in a 350z

Thanks Guys and Gals

if you need any help feel free to contact me about it. The box that the PS2 sits in is cut off in the back and the back panel is shaved to make room.

i was planning on doing the xenarc 7" tv with slim ps2, mounting the ps2 either under the seat, or in the glove box behind the passenger side. i didnt realize the new ps2 didnt have the motorized tray

would it be easy to put in the glove box though? there would be enough room for it to pop up, and i could mount it easily without a custom box or anything....right?? (i hope)

Yes, it is very easy to install there in the glove box, the only problem is when you shut the car off the PS2 Shuts off. When you start the car again you have to move the seat, open the glove box and turn it on again. This is especially hard with a passenger in the car, can you say squish! If you can do a custom install into one of the changer bays it will be so much easier to access.

great idea putting the PS2 on a track! wow, what a cool mom! was she a M.I.L.F.? just kidding! lol nice clean install!

i installed the exact inverter in the exact location on my Z but with zip-ties and double sided tape. i have extensions running under the carpet from the PS2 to the small openings under the passenger and driver seats. i plug my controllers into the extensions at those points. the PS2 is velcro'd down so that i can take it out along with my controllers and bring them in the house if i choose to. the fact that it flips up to open works excellent in my case. wireless controllers, hmm.... the PS2 stays in stanby when the car is running. that doesn't bother me because i have my ddx7015 as my source anyway. the PS2 is only on when i need it to be.

our IR extender solves the problem of flipping the seat forward to turn anything on. The only time you see the playstation is when you want to change a game or DVD. If you watch the movie I turn the playstation on from the remote control pointed at our reciever. The wireless controllers have auto shut off if no movement and power on buttons when you want them on. We will be toying with some other playstation mods soon. Thanks for the comments and watch out cuz she reads this site as well..LOL. She will enjoy seeing the good comments i am sure

Just a side comment this is the first time we have taken a 350z interior apart and wow minimal bolts mostly clips. I hade my 10mm and 12mm ready, but instead grabbed the panel popper..lol

Nice install of the playstation in your ride

if yall are worried about squishing the passenger, you might want to look into something like what Nissan_fanatic did here with his XBOX... pretty nifty if you ask me. i wonder if they make one for the PS2. anyone know?

He tore apart the xbox and did that custom. I would use an IR extender, but my old PS2 won't turn on by Remote, It is one of the first ones that came without the Built in IR reciever.

taking apart the playstation will be next on the list for another project all together becuase i prefer the motorized tray capabilities. With the big ps2 that has a built in ir port you can open and close the door by remote as well as turn on/ off and reset.
