Default alpine spx-177r ?s

just did a search...came up with only one hit and their ?s were not answered...but that was over 3 months ago.

so...anyone have these speakers installed? i heard them last weekend and my ears have never been soothed to that degree before...it was simply amazing.

i believe i will go ahead and install the following system from auto sound in palatine, IL by X-mas time.

Alpine 9833 or 9835 (depending if they can cut me a deal)
Alpine SPX-177r (6.5")
NO REAR SPEAKERS!
JL 10" sub (i think it's 10w3 or something like that: $200 or so)
Alpine F340 amplifier

But the total damage is like $2100 or so. (similar cost of my BBK)

the 177R's is the bang for the buck speaker. Uses the the same drivers as the vifa xt home driver. I've seen this speaker for sale on ikesound.com for around $250.

2100 for that stuff? A lil on the high side?

Deck - 450 (being generous, IMO .. unless they are auth'd by Alpine its the same as buying online)
SPX - 250
JL - 200 (for a 10w3? WOW ouch?)
Amp - dunno lets say 350 for the hell of it
Wires - 50 (generous again .. Knu is cheaper)

Running total so far 1300 .. 800 for install? That better be one GOOD install. You could save a grip on tax alone if you bought from one out of state online dealer.

BTW, the 177's are nice speakers.

i totally agree with you about the price being on the high side.

they are an authorized alpine dealership so their alpine stuff are sold all at msrp...and i've heard they do a great job on install...lifetime warranty on the install. (the spx are being sold for near 400) the sub box is 150, so there's another $300 so close to 1600 before install...+250 on install + tax (i hate tax, 8% or higher i forget.)

The warranty is as good as the company's service. I dunno anything about them, but I mean, I'd laugh at Frys Electronics giving me a lifetime warranty .. those are the dumbasses who lost $50 to my CC because they told me console memory (PSX) was software ..

I can't believe you'd pay $400 for SPX177R's .. wow. The 177a's were on clearance for like 150 from Crutchfield a while back .. and IIRC, they're authorized too. You might actually be able to save money by buying through Crutchfield if your local dealer is too expensive .. I believe you can get a $25 discount by using another member's code on your first order over $250. I've got $25 in credit (the code you use gets them $25 too) sittin around doing nothing.

Warranty is good as long as its bought from an authorized dealer, then installed by an authorized dealer .. doesn't mean it's gotta be the same dealer

*IF* Crutchfield still sells the 177R's, their price was like $225ish .. totally owns that dealer's BS price.

BTW is that a normal MDF box, or something nice?

the install guy i talked to said it would be a waste of money...and may even ruin sound quality since they're so close to our ears...what's the point of getting them if you have to turn the gain to those rear fill speakers way down anyway...doesn't make any sense. if i had some DVD or movie system, then i would think about it...but for pure stereo...not necessary.

My friend had most of his G35 coupe dampened for $200. Of course, I supplied the RaamMat. It's much easier to tell actual costs when you remove the product from the equation

Ask them how much it would cost just for labor .. dynamat is SOOOO overpriced. Better off going FatMat, SecondSkin, etc .. and of course I've mentioned RaamMat.

As for the box .. if it's a normal shaped cube-ish box .. there are many smaller d-i-y'rs who will build something like that to spec for like $75-100, carpetted. If you were in SoCal I'd point you to one or 2 of my friends.

I would have to disagree. I have both dynamat extreme and raamMat (the new formula too), the dynamat is thicker and deadens the metal more. I used the dynamat on the inner part of the door, bottom of my back seat, Raamat on the outer part of the door, door panels, and trunk. There is a difference!

I've got both right here and there is no noticable diff other than price. Probably got like 150sqft of RaamMat & 20-30ft of Dynamat Extreme.

And even if there was a diff, the price difference cannot keep up w/the .05mil diff.

The next thing I'd rather try is the liquid stuff .. weighs less, dampens more. (spectrum v2)

HA! Yeah, how's the snow treating you? Are you using snow tires this season? $200 imho sounds pretty cheap. If I could get somebody to do a thorough job of deadening for that, I'd be all over it. So, if you do find somebody for that cheap, hook a brother up!

$200 is the labor alone.

But if you think about it .. shops charge anywhere from $40-75 to an insane $90/hr (I can think of 2 shops within 15min of here that charge about 90/hr)

Obviously it's not a $90/hr place. Let's say $50/hr. That's 4 hours removing panels & slicing foiled tar, cleaning surface, and sticking. 4 hours is a good amount of time for a relatively smaller car.

It also helps that the shop I'm referring to has had lots of experience w/G35's .. they've done quite a few and the owner drives one too

Yep, the experience IMO makes all the difference. Some **** doing this for the first time would take them easily double the time. $90?! Do they perform the work with the ski masks on or off?!?

They wear the ski masks all the time.

Then again, this is the best installer in the COUNTRY .. 13years and counting worth of awards n stuff. $90 might be underestimating the price .. I don't remember anymore, it's been too long and I don't enjoy stickershock.

Call SpeakerWorks in Orange, CA if you'd like to know The other place is Huntington Beach Auto Sound .. not cheap but they do carry nice equipment to play with in their soundroom
