Default power inverter

I want to install a 400watt power inverter on my car. Just wondering if i have to install it directly to the battery or are there any wires inside the car that i can connect it to? i tried to use the cig lighter socket but i'm plugging in a 150watt laptop so it always shuts down bec of too much wattage. it states on the manual the for 150watt or higher needs to be plugged directly to the battery. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Well it looks like you just answered your own question. :-)
If the manual says it then it's probably true.
However...I have plugged in an xbox and a tv to an inverter that was in the cig. lighter. Right now I only have a playstation running off of it.

what kind of power inverter do you have? i cannot find any inverter that can be plugged in to the cig lighter that can hold more than 150 watts.
