Default JL Subwoofers

I am looking for some recommendations while choosing a subwoofer. I have decided I am going to go with 2 8" behind the driver's seat, and would like to know your experiences with the different models JL Audio has to offer. Right now I am partial to the JL 8W3V2. Any reviews on this one? There seems to be a more powerful and a less powerful option. I don't need to wake the neighbors, but I do want clear, crisp bass.

Thanks for any input.

Behind the seat compartments have been tried many times, Result is not very overwhelming. You may want to explore your options before you start building someting behind the seats.

I dunno - this is the install I am looking to partially emulate, and he says it sounds great.

I think there are just a lot of different tastes out there. Of course the ideal set up would be to have the subs in the hatch in a custom fiberglass enclosure, facing the rear, etc etc. - but I like having a spare tire and room for my groceries. Unfortunately this is my every day driver; not a weekend toy - and not the most practical vehicle to begin with, so I need to conserve space.

if you want to put behind the seat, you will need to put in seal box to maximize the usage. Open air is not good. Or just put in 1 10" (they are fit)

I am actually wondering about that - which to do, a single 10" or the dual 8"s. I know the 10" would be an easier install, but I think dual 8" might be better for the type of music I like. What will be the difference in the type of sound? What are the advantages to doing 2 8s?

you will not get much performance with dual 8 since they don't have much room for both.

What about an 8W7 Building a sealed enclosure and firing it inside the compartment, this will allow the air movement inside the cabin resulting in better bass responce. And believe me 8W7 is all you need.

Nazar, if you build it, we will buy it...

There's a huge demand for a sub enclosure that doesn't take up any trunk space. If you can make it work, I'm confident there would be a lot of interested buyers! I know that I don't have three days to custom build something like this....

Also, regarding firing the sub into the enclosure....is there enough room behind the driver's seat for this to fit? I would think the sub would need to be on the inside firing out due to the seat back.

I second that - if you've got a custom solution you are thinking of, I am sure we would all love to buy it, or at least see a diagram of what's in your head! Thanks Nazar; oh, by the way - you said the 8w7 is all I need - that is the most expensive of the JL 8" subs, right? THat sucker handles like 400Watts, no? Isn't that overkill? I just need the music for me , but I wonder - what JL amp would you recommend for that sub? Are you saying if I purchased that one, that 1 is all I would need? If I went with one, shouldn't I do the 10? Forgive my ignorance, I am still learning. The most car stereo experience I have was a SS10 kicker box (that I can't even unload on ebay that was in the trunk of my 87 Acura, run by an old Alphasonik Amp. The thing thumped though!

I can only dream of having only one 8" sub, in a stealth location, and having the passenger say "wow!"

The 8w7 does present some problems with this location, as it's HUGE basket may not fit. The angle of the sub may need to be altered to fit the 8w7. Volume for this sub (firing out) would be .875cf + .06 (sub displacement) = .935cf. Seems like that should be achievable with a little creativity.
