Anyone switch to a Bose 6 Disc head unit?
Who has done a switchover from the stock cd player (Base/Track models) to the stock Bose 6 disc HU? Is it plug and play? Do I have to get anything else? Any help would be great.
Also if you have a 6 disc bose head unit laying around, Im looking to buy one.

The Bose is not the head unit. That is made by a third party, Fugitsu. Bose only adds a chip in the factory amp to "Balance " the system to their specs. Nissan is allowed to then use the Bose name for its marketing value (at a cost to Nissan)
The factory system with the Bose amp chip attached to very poor quality speakers results in a product that many, many people have complained about. Frequency responce, transient responce as well as the low end Hz of the subwoofer were all lacking. The Bose formula is probably the worse of any OEM manufacturer installed system industry wide. It's amazing how they have marketed themselves into the statosphere of quality factory systems by name alone. They don't belong in the car industry.
My 05 had 160 miles on it when I had all the speakers pulled out, replaced with high end Alpine separates. One JL sub was bi-amped and mounted in factory location. Two other amps were added for the tweeters and the two pair of door and rear panel speakers. I then added XM in the GPS location. Lastly I had iPod hard wired into the system (wire in center console). I kept the factory head unit. This system sounds fantastic by comparison to the OEM junk. I also have a separate adjust for the sub under the dash.
The point is keep your factory head unit. It works very well. Though its CD loading logic is a bit weird. 86 the rest. The only noticeable non factory look are the tweeters located in the A-pillars for better imaging. I'm sooo happy with the results.
PS: a lot of the sound dampening adhesive stuff was also added the the doors, 1/4 panels and trunk area. A great intall (about 3K) Also I lost the storage space behing pass. seat (amps).

No, it's nt "plug and play". Everything about the Bose system is non-standard and different. In addition to the HU, it includes a separate amp which is what drives the speakers. There is a aftermarket adapter than you can buy but as others have pointed out - why replace one "ok" POS with another.
BTW, I just replaced my front speakers with some Infinity Kappas and it already sounds infinitely better than stock.

If you saw the amp that comes with the Bose system you would be laughing for hours! t's the most pathetic excuse for an amp in the world. It's a little bigger than a 6 pc. McNugget! LOL
